I'm a huge fan of Estep's Elemental Assassin and Mythos Academy series so I wasn't really sure what to expect from the Bigtime series. The first installment, Karma Girl, really delivers. I absolutely enjoyed this book. It was a fast, fun read that gave us everything that we look for in a great book.

Carmen Cole is an investigative reporter who is on a mission to unveil every super hero and ubervillian that exists. The mission didn't start until she found her fiance boinking her best friend on her wedding day. And during this betrayal she realized that the two people closest to her are also a super hero and ubervillan who have been lying to her for years.

She ends up in Bigtime who have several targets to unmask. She works at a local newspaper and is on the hunt to unmask everyone she can. She finally figures out the identity of one of the Fearless Five, a group of super heroes who fight crime together. Once the story runs, the unimaginable happens and he commits suicide. Carmen feels horrible guilt over what happened and faces a ton of backlash from the community.

Because of her knack for uncovering super hero identities, she's kidnapped by the leading group of villains in town to do their bidding. Basically they want her to uncover the identity of Striker, one of the leading Fearless Five or else.

I think that my explanation of what's going on in this book sounds a bit cheesy. And the book is a bit cheesy to be honest. However, it's also super cute, fun, action packed, and filled with heartbreak romance and mystery. I really enjoyed this book and I really hope that you all check this series out. I can't wait until I can pick up the next installment.

  1. Jennifer Estep told me at AAD that the series is much lighter and campier than her other two series so I've been waiting until I'm in the mood for that kind of read. But I can't wait to check them out.

  2. I have been hesitant to read this series too, I do like to watch Superhero movies, but to read about them, not so much. Glad you enjoyed it though.

  3. Sounds like this is going to be fun and just right for those times when you want to get a little bit away from the darker reads. I have hesitated because I love the Elemental Assassin series so much that sometimes it is hard for me to switch it up. Thanks for sharing with us :)
