#AADSAV Author Spotlight with Stacey Kennedy + Giveaway!

Sunday, March 31, 2013
If you are a follower of our blog then the next author needs no introduction. She is the most featured author on our blog and I am sooooo excited to meet her this year.
 Please Welcome

Stacey Kennedy!

Please introduce yourself to our readers?
A little about me…well, I’m a wife and a mom of two little monsters. I have an addiction for Starbucks and television shows like Games of Thrones and Sons of Anarchy. Other than that, I love camping, and of course, I’m totally addicted to books!

How well do you think Tess and the gang would hold up in a zombie apocalypse?
The gang will hold up well. Tess, she’d probably lock herself in a room and not come out!

Any teasers you can give us for Eternally Devoted?

Here’s an exclusive snippet from Eternally Devoted that is one of my favorite scenes.
His expression softened, sending heat to slide down my spine at the adoration in the depths of his eyes. But the concern resting heavy in his features stopped the heat from turning wicked hot. “You look so tired.” He feathered a finger under my eye. “You’ve been through a lot.” His eyebrows furrowed. “Too much.”
“For this…” I leaned into his hold, rested my head against his chest, and stated an undeniable truth. “It’s never too much.”
He held me a moment longer as the wind continued to flutter around us, and then he moved away and caressed his knuckles over my cheek. “Why do you love me like this? Go through all of this?”
Like with everything, when some things could be so complicated, some other things were completely straightforward. I stared into the handsome face that had snagged me at first look. I gazed into Kipp’s unique colored eyes, his kissable mouth, and even his scruffy hair that suited him. “Because I do love you.”
His mouth twitched. “That simple, huh?”
“Yes, Kipp, it’s that simple.” I lost myself in his twinkling eyes, noticing the warm hints of passion, but also saw something much stronger. When Kipp looked at me, he showed me in expression how much he loved me—each and every time. I stood on my tiptoes and cupped his face. “I love you for the same reasons you do me.”
He grinned. “Because it’s right.”

When you started this series did you have a feel for how it was going to go or how it would end?
It’s a yes and no answer. I knew what I wanted the outcome to be, for Kipp to live, of course. However, I wasn’t at all sure how I’d get there. Truth is, I had tried to plan out the series, but I always ended up going in a different direction, so I stopped planning. I mean, heck, I planned for three books and I ended up writing four for the Frostbite series. Yeah, so I gave up trying to figure things out for Tess and Kipp, and simply let them lead the way.

What has been the hardest book to write in the Frostbite series?

Book Two was the hardest, because it had the least amount of time with Kipp. It was also the most painful and difficult for Tess. I felt her strain through that entire book, but it was the book that kinda changed the game for her, too. When she finally realized “what” she was fighting for, so I sorta hated it and loved it, too.

Was there ever a scene you had to leave out but wish you hadn't?

I try not to regret the scenes that I cut out, because you just have to learn to let go. If not, I’d dwell and spend all my time arguing with my editors. Usually any scene I’ve cut is because it really does have to go, no matter how much I grumble about it.

Do you think if Tess and Kipp had met when he was still fully alive would they have gotten together?

Of course, I have to say YES. They are soul-mates, after all.

What are you most excited about at AADSAV?

Meeting Amber, of course! J  AADSAV will be a total blast. I love this conference!!

(great answer. lol)

Do you know of any panels you will be doing?

None. I’d much rather sit around and just chat with everyone, and have a few drinks!

Since this is your 2nd year going any advice for newbies?

Make sure you have extra space in your suitcase. You’ll be bringing home lots of awesome swag and fantastic books!

Any sites you plan on seeing while in Savannah?

One thing I’m doing no matter what is going on a ghost tour. I’m such a chicken and will be so scared, but that is a must-do for sure!
(what day are you doing that? I am such a baby but I will so go!)

Eternally Devoted
Frostbite Book Four
Urban Fantasy Romance
Length: Novel
Heat Level: Sensual
Release date: March 29, 2013

Tess Jennings, who has been gifted with the ability to see ghosts, struggles to help the Grand Master of the Animus, Alexander, cross over. She might even have discovered who murdered him, but she has no way to prove it.
Adding to her pile of failures, Tess must accept a harsh reality—she has officially run out of time. The closer she gets to an answer to save her ghost lover, Kipp McGowen, the more she’s realizing she’s been searching for an answer she didn’t want to find.
Tess will have to make difficult choices, and her decisions will lead to consequences she cannot predict. Will Kipp finally take a living breath again, or will Tess take her last and join him in the Netherworld forever?

Stacey Kennedy’s novels are lighthearted fantasy with heart-squeezing, thigh-clenching romance, and even give a good chuckle every now and again. But within the stories you’ll also find fast-paced action, life-threatening moments, and a big bad villain who needs to be destroyed. She lives in Southwestern Ontario with her husband and two children. If she’s not plugging away at a new story—which is rare because her muse is annoying—you’ll find her camping, curling up with the latest flick, or obsessing over Sons of Anarchy, Games of Thrones, Supernatural and Dexter.

The Amber Feature: Discussing Clockwork Princess

Amber I. interviewing Amber R.

Tell me the one emotion you where feeling when you first finished the book?
I honestly was shocked. I had to go back and read the end again.

Its over, how do you feel?
I feel mostly good about it all. There was one particular thing that I would change. But other than that it was perfect.

What bothered you about the ending the most?
Okay. So I can't really answer this in case there is someone reading this who hasn't read the books yet and it's kind of a big thing and I don't want to give it away. But really.. no one should get TWO happily ever afters. Seriously.

I know we've already privately talked about it but one thing would you change?
Amber, you have a one track mind. Lol. I'd change it. I'd change it so hard and fast no one would even know it's there.

Favorite part of the book, and no Will is not an answer (I know that is what I would of said)
There was a pretty awesome fight scene at the end that I loved. I loved seeing Cecily grow in this book and Sophie too.

Lets talk Jem, how do you feel about him? like how he handled Tessa and Will, his decision to do what he did?  or how you felt about him and Tessa's relationship?
I think he was really brave. But then wasn't he always? Jem is a really great person and you can truly see the unique love that Jem, Will, and Tessa all share. I honestly thought that Jem and Tessa were really sweet together. I didn't care for the way that Will and Jem were described as two halves of the same person or same soul. Because no matter what they were still two separate people.

I know when I was reading the book, I had certain moments where I needed to talk to you, did you have them and at what parts?
There were so many things that happened in this book that I needed you for. When Tessa was kidnapped by Mrs Black, when Tessa jumped out of the carriage, when Will took off after Tessa, when Jem was sick at the Institute, when one thing happened at the end, when the fight happened at the end, all the crap with the Consul (i really hated that guy). Mainly, the whole book.

On a scale to 1-10 how hard to your heart hurt when you read that one scene at the end. you know what I am talking about.
I cried 10 buckets of tears during that scene. So 10. I'm going to get upset just thinking about it. Thanks.

Amber R. Interviewing Amber I.

There is one thing in this book that leads us to believe that a character in this book (other than Magnus) is a character in the Mortal Instruments series. How do you feel about that?
I thought that was so cool. I love when spin offs tie into the original book. So I loved that.

What was the one perfect thing in this book that you absolutely loved?
ha! Come on you know what I am going to say. We all should know what I am going to say. So I should just say it. I loved that certain scene was Tessa was kidnapped and this certain someone came to rescue her and things got heated!! Or I loved at the Christmas party out on the steps. (trying not give too much away) I just realized I kinda read this question wrong, I was thinking my favorite scene so that is what you got.

Tessa's powers definitely develop in this book and we find out more about who she is. Do you have any opinions about this?
I liked finally getting to know and to see how it happened. I thought that was a very clever twist. I wasn't sure we would ever know and I loved the way it turned out to be.

I'm trying to stay away from Will questions because we'll be there forever. But was there anytime throughout this book that you just wanted to sit Will down and have a stern talking to him about the things he was doing?
Most of the time I just wanted to hug him. I don't think he ever made me mad. Maybe I am too obsessed with him to see his flaws but everything he did, I was okay with. I just wanted to make him stop hurting. He broke my heart when he would open up.

What are your opinions about Jem and Will's relationship?
I love them. I didn't want to see either of them get hurt. I have never seen 2 guys be as good to each other as these two have.  Their relationship was precious and I loved seeing more of it in this last book.

Any final thoughts since this is it in the series?
How can we go on in a world where Will, will no longer grace us with his awesomeness! HOW?

Review: Dime Store Magic by Kelley Armstrong

You know I really didn't like Paige in the second book of this series so I wasn't expecting too much from this book when I started reading it. Of course, I was wrong to be so passive about it because I absolutely loved it.

Paige is unexpectedly thrust into the role as guardian/caregiver/parental figure/friend/teacher to an extraordinarily talented 13 year old witch, Savannah. They both have had to deal with their own fair share of loss and disappointment. And they're just trying to work through these new adjustments together. Paige is also head of the Coven, although the Elders of the group seem to be treating her as if she is an imbecile. With all of these things to work through Leah is back on behalf of a demon who claims he is Savannah's father and he wants custody of her. Paige immediately knows something is up and refuses to give up Savannah and things of course get out of control from there. With some unwanted help from an unsuspecting source, Paige is determined to keep Savannah from harm.

Paige and Savannah have both lost their mothers in the past year. They've both have had to deal with some things that people should never have to deal with. And yet, they pull together. They argue and butt heads but I really love their relationship. It's not easy, it's not always fun, but they pull through and you can see that they really care about each other. Savannah needs Paige. And as much as Paige thought she was "doing right" by taking Savannah, Paige needs Savannah too.

Unwanted help comes in the form of sorcerer and lawyer, Lucas Cortez. Paige has a hard time trusting him because he's a sorcerer and his past comes into the picture to break down Paige's trust where it had just been built up. It's interesting to see him become a dynamic in this story. There was a love story between him and Paige that I thought kind of came out of left field at first but as it progressed, I really liked them together.

This book is pure madness. And I loved every page of it. Honestly, if I could just continue on with a series with this group, I would be happy. I know I'll probably see them throughout this series but still I ended up loving them so much. I can't wait to see where they end up and how Savannah turns out. I highly recommend this series so far and I can't wait to read more.

Review: Imitation by Heather Hildenbrand

Thursday, March 28, 2013

Everyone is exactly like me.  There is no one like me.  The rough fabric of my cotton nightgown chafes so I lie very still. They say my discomfort comes from being built like one accustomed to niceties. How is that fair when I myself have never experienced anything but copies of the real thing?  My entire life is an imitation.  I am an Imitation.  I’ve been here five years. Training. Preparing. Waiting. And now I have a letter. My assignment has begun.  I am a prisoner. I am not Raven Rogen. I am here to die.

This has to be one of my favorite Heather Hildenbrand books ever!! I loved it so much. The story was great, it just had a great unique concept, I loved the characters and it just totally sucked me in from the very first page. The world we are thrown into is also amazing.  If you are looking for a new YA read, then I totally think you should grab a copy of Imitation.

Ven is a clone, she has been built in a lab. There are hundreds of clones living in this place where they are basically raised to die. They each have an authentic out in the real world. Whoever gets that dreaded letter from Marla is never ever seen again. They get to enter the real world and play their authentics part when there is danger. They are raised to be ready and willing to die for these purposes.

When Ven enters her assignment her world is drastically changed. Her authentic is a spoiled party girl. Her father is a major asshole. She has to play the role of this girl who people are trying to kill or her authentics father will flip her kill switch. Ven is beaten many times but its not all bad. In it she finds someone to trust and maybe a way out.

Its just simply an awesome read. I loved everything about this book, it was heartbreaking, it had a forbidden romance, it was very unique, the mystery kept me on the edge of my seat and I just couldn't put it down. I can't wait for more from this series.

About Rosalie:

Formally trained as a corporate and real estate lawyer, I practiced law for 5 years before finally admitting to myself that negotiating contracts wasn’t nearly as fun as dreaming up stories. As an avid reader of romances and supernatural stories, I knew I wanted to write urban fantasy and paranormal romance.  Tales of vampires, demons, and other supernatural beings ensued.
I’m currently working on the Demons of Infernum series, a series of paranormal romance novels featuring four sexy half-demon brothers and their reluctant heroines.
When not writing, I enjoy spending time with my husband and son in our home state of Florida, as well as searching out things that go bump in the night. I still haven’t found any, but I’m keeping my fingers crossed.
If I ever do find evidence of the supernatural, it remains to be seen whether I’ll jump around in excitement, or run screaming in terror (but I’m betting on the latter)!

I reviewed this book when it first came out but it was my FAVORITE so I am going to share it with you again!!

This 2nd book was just as awesome if not more awesome then the first book. I love how so far we are getting a different brother in each book. They are part demons who are not looking for love but they seem to find it..

Taeg and Maya, I think are going to be my favorite couple no matter how many books come out. Even in the first book I really liked him. And I think Rosalie found him a perfect match. Maya is stronger then most humans and she totally can keep Taeg on his toes. She was pretty bad ass and it was fun to see how his ability had no affect on her. I loved watching their relationship grow. Maya being a demon slayer, Taeg being a half demon it was not an easy thing to do. Neither wanted it, but their attraction and affection totally won out. And thank goodness!!

If you are a paranormal romance lover like myself you are going to want to check out this series! There is love, some hot sexy scenes, lots of mystery and well its awesome! I totally recommend it!!

-Amber I.

A fantastic series with some sexy demons. Make sure you check out these books.

#AADSAV Author Spotlight: Boone Brux

Thank you so much for having me at AwesomeSauce Book Club. I’m so thrilled to be a featured author at Authors After Dark in Savannah and know we’re going to have a great time. All right, so I’m here to talk a little bit about my April release, Suddenly Beautiful, but instead of praising my heroine’s virtuous nature, I’m going to talk a little bit about her thirst for revenge.

In Suddenly Beautiful, my heroine is an efficient executive assistant, who works for the hero, a cosmetic mogul. Oh, and he happens to be the son of Aphrodite. As a matter of fact, there are a whole lot of demi-gods and goddesses working at Kythera Cosmetics. Only Nikki, my heroine, doesn’t know this. Neither does she know that she’s a demi-goddess (paternity to be revealed in the book).

For the last few months Nikki’s days at the office have been unpleasant due to Demetria Mirrors, Narcissus’s vain niece. The corporate attorney is like a shark in heels, always taking the opportunity to poke at Nikki’s self-esteem. When Nikki’s demi-goddess powers kick in, the things she desires start happening. Who is first on her radar?  Demetria Mirrors.

Making my heroine go hog wild with her revenge really wasn’t an option. I wanted the readers to like her and nobody likes a ruthless b***h, so I had to come up with revenge tactics that us mere mortals wished we possessed. I don’t want to tell all the fun away Nikki retaliated, but let me just tempt you with yeast infections and unibrows.

I’m not a vindictive person, but I’ll admit there have been a few times I wished I had the powers to manifest my desires. Like making the police appear when the person who’s been riding my butt for the past five miles speeds by and then cuts me off. Or when the mean girl in my daughter’s class belittled her in front of everybody. How I wish I could have made her drool for a few minutes every time she tried to talk. And they wouldn’t necessarily be acts of revenge. How about speeding up the popcorn person at the concession counter at the movie? That would benefit everybody in line. Let’s call it a service to the entire movie going community.

If you could exact a little revenge girl style, what would you do?

Be sure to look for Suddenly Beautiful from Entangled Publishing on April 17. It’s a goddess good time!

Thanks so much for being here with us today! I can't wait for AAD. And once we have Suddenly Beautiful cover and buy links we will share them here!

I read this story originally when it was Whatnots and Dodads and I loved it. But reading Some Like it Wicked I could see some of the changes that where made and I loved it!! I love when Stacey Kennedy mixes paranormal with some steamy sexin'!

Bryanna is a witch who has been an outcast all her life. Her magic is not what it should be. Her parents sent her on her way and her coven wants to keep her out of the way. Even her then boyfriend is trying to keep her out of the public eye. That isn't the only thing that makes him a douche but I won't tell you everything.

When Bryanna finally flees that life she literally stumbles into a path a sexy demon. He takes her to this town where all sorts of paranormals live and no one cares what or who you are. Zeke in less then a day gives Bryanna more courage about herself then anybody has. He shows her that her magic isn't as horrible as she thought and gets her to embrace it.

Its a fun story with crazy unpredictable magic, but I haven't told you my favorite part yet its sexy as hell! Zeke and Bryanna  have instant chemistry and when they finally do get together it is hot hot hot!!

Some Like it Wicked has everything I love about Stacey's stories. Its not one to be missed!!

Review: Undead and Unwed by MaryJanice Davidson

By: Mary Janice Davidson
Release Date:  March, 2004
Genre:  Adult Paranormal Romance/Fantasy
Number of pages:  288

This book was an extremely fast, fun read. I have really been wanting to read this series and I finally was able to start it up. Betsy is a pure American twenty something woman. At least she seems that way at first. She's interested in herself, shoes, and where her next paycheck is coming from. As a recently laid off executive assistant, she's sort of down on her luck. Then she dies and things really go down hill.

Poor Betsy turns into a vampire after she is hit by a car when she is walking across the street. She wakes up in a funeral home basement on the day of her funeral. She's pretty disoriented at first but our Betsy is a quick adjuster. She heads home, informs her parents and her best friend that she's not really dead, kind of. And she gets herself acquainted with the local vampire community. Now it seems like none of the normal vampire rules apply to Betsy. She can touch crosses, go into churches, she controls her bloody hunger, she doesn't get fried up in the sun or none of the normal things that vamps go through. This puts her on the local vamps radar even though that's the last place she wants to be, she doesn't want to be involved with them in any way and she just wants to go back to her normal life.

I really enjoyed this book. Betsy is so funny. She's witty and snarky and has a heart of gold. Who doesn't love that? I love that she just rolls with the punches and doesn't let anything but a nice pair of shoes faze her. All of the characters in this book are really great actually. And there is some hot, hot, steamy under water loving that takes place. I really want to get my hands on the second book but I don't want to get series overload. I'm really contemplating breaking that rule to read more. This series is absolutely fantastic, if you haven't checked it out yet you definitely need too.

The Amber Feature: Tackling Authors

Saturday, March 23, 2013
We loved this feature so much, we brought it back! But better! So what we're doing is having an informal (obviously) joint discussion/interview/review with books that we read around the same time. This is what we're here for, right? To talk books! So let's get talking..
Today we're talking authors! They're the ones who got us here, right? And we all know and love them so we Ambers tackle our favorite authors in this episode of the Amber Feature.

AR: Who is one author who never lets you down?
Now Amber, you know this is hard for me. I am just browsing at all your questions and they are all hard. hhhmmm let me think.  Karen Marie Moning, Keri Arthur, Kelley Armstrong, Rachel Caine, Patricia Briggs Kristen Callihan... I am stopping but the list could go on.

AR: Any new authors that you're absolutely loving?
Well Kristen Callihan just came out last year and we all know I love her. I did just discover Nicole Peeler a few months back and I love her too.

AR: Do you have any authors that you've read that have let you down who you usually love? No names needed, just curious.
Yes this has happened. I actually have quit a few series in the last year because I am just done. I loved the first books but they lost me. Its not many but it happens.

AR: Do you have a go to author when you need to lose yourself in a book?
Eve Langlais is always great. I usually can find a pretty quick read with some sexy men and some sexy good times.

AR: Off the top of your head who are your 3 favorite authors?
I am not answering this. Its like choosing a favorite child. its not fair for me.

AI: Look at your goodreads, what are the top 3 authors you've read?
Richelle Mead, Keri Arthur, and Jennifer Estep.

AI: Out of those 3 who do you want to meet the most and why?
Awwww. This is hard! How are you supposed to pick just one? And especially out of these three? UGH. I'll have to go with Keri Arthur though. I love her Riley Jenseon series so much and now her Dark Angels series with Risa. That world she sets up is just fascinating and pulls you right in. I would love to pick her brain for a few hours.

AI: Do you have an author that you will just buy anything they put out without even reading what the book is about?
Pretty much any of my favorites. Kelley Armstrong, Rachel Caine, Kristen Callihan, Richelle Mead, Patricia Briggs. This is really an ongoing list.

AI: If you could give an author an award who would you give it to and what would the award be?
Rachel Caine get the "Thanks for making me cry all those times and having all kinds of feelings because I'm way too emotionally involved with your characters" award.

AI: Ever read a book and like man I wish I wrote that? Well even if you never thought that here is the real question, If you could trade places with an author (not their whole lives just be the author of the series instead of them) who would it be?
I've read so many books that I wish I had the creativity, skill, and dedication to write. Also, I would love to be Rachel Caine. I'm almost positive she's a genius. Or I've been loving MaryJanice Davidson lately, that woman is freaking hilarious.

Thanks for joining us! And we'd love to here about your favorite authors so please comment! We always like to chat it up with you guys!

Review: Deadly Sting by Jennifer Estep

Friday, March 22, 2013
Series: Elemental Assassin #8
 Publication Date: Mar. 26, 2013
Publisher: Pocket Books
Pages: 400
Reviewer: 2 Ambers for the price of 1

I'm going to break this down into two categories, things I like and things I didn't like.

Things I liked
  • Gin is completely bad ass. She is so awesome. She totally kicks ass and takes names. Sometimes she doesn't even take names. I loved her in this book. She's really come into her own and knows who she is and what she's about.
  • Finn is here and I love that guy.
Things I didn't like
  • Over 60% of the book takes place in a matter of a couple hours.
  • Owen and Gin are still on the fritz.

Okay so I guess I'm going to talk about it too. I have to say that I absolutely love this series. I will be an avid lover of Jennifer Estep and Gin Blanco. These things are true and will never, ever be different. However, I really feel like the first part of this book just dragged on and on. I will say that I would still read this book again and I'm not a big fan of reading books twice. Simply because I think that Jennifer is that great of an author.

I just wanted to Owen and Gin to get back together. That's all I wanted to happen. And it didn't. It is better than the last book but it's still just not going. I just don't understand why Owen can't let the Salina thing go and I just don't get it! She was a crazy ass bitch!

Okay, I still loved this book. We've got a good mystery brewing for the next books. And I can't wait to see what happens with that. I still love Gin and this entire series. I just really need some answers with Gin and Owen, it's driving me nuts! Throw a girl a bone, Jennifer!

I am convinced Jennifer Estep is trying to crush my spirit. lol Why is she torturing us? Okay so how to review this book. Well here we go.

Yes Owen is getting his own section. What the flipping flip is wrong with him? He needs to move on and stop hurting Gin! Get over it already. The psycho bitch tried to kill his sister he needs to stop caring so much. If he doesn't come back soon I am not going to want him back. That is right, I am moving on. I can only handle so much before I crack and I am cracking! Also he pissed me off how hot and cold he was the whole time. One minute I see the old Owen the next I see this new one. I hated it! Come back Owen, but do it fast and make sure you do it right, or else I will never ever get over this.

The Time Line and side characters-
Well I was not a fan of the books set up. We pretty much only cover one day, one party really. To me that made it feel more like a novella dragged out a bit. None of the other books take place like this and so it just didn't feel right. Also we spent so much time with just Gin that I missed the side characters here. They are a big part of the story to me so I missed having them around so much. The little we did get to see Finn though was so worth it. I love him. He is one of my most favorite characters ever!!

All in all I did enjoy the book. Yes I had some issues but it doesn't take away that I still did enjoyed it. I just wish we had Owen back. Yes I know I need to talk more about the story but this is what stays with me in the end. I want the old Owen back. And I am scared now that if he does come back I will not trust him or something. Yes I need a life and I know I am too emotionally involved in this story.

If Jane and Anyan don't get it on soon I am jumping into this book and guarding them so they stop getting interrupted. I am so feeling for Jane's libido in this book, enough is enough we need some sexin' and we need it now.

I have to talk about this part in the book. Where she goes and faces the big bad monster, well it totally reminded me of Return to Oz where she meets that crazy stone guy. This is all I pictured.
Remember him? Well if you don't go watch this movie..

This isn't my favorite in the series but it was still awesome.  I love Jane's dialogue between herself and her libido. I am always voting for her libido to win. Unfortunately poor Jane's libido is put on hold for most of the book since Anyan has been turned into an honest to goodness dog (licking his ass, sniffing his piss and all)

In this book there is a mysterious new bad guy. Jane and the gang are up to their necks in this mystery and some of the old bad guys return. They have to find a way to stop whatever is going on and help change Anyan and Nell back. Blondie whose real name is more of a sneeze sound plays a major role in this book and shes fun but I did miss our originals.

Anyways this book is really setting the stage for something major. I can't wait to see where we are going to be going. I just hope that Jane stays her fun libido driven self and that her and Anyan can finally seal the deal. This is an awesome series so if you haven't read it you must. Its just unique and fun and I am totally enjoying the ride.

Review: Winterblaze by Kristen Callihan

Wednesday, March 20, 2013

Series: Darkest London #3
Publication Date: Feb. 2013
Publisher: Grand Central
Pages: 400
Reviewed by: Amber R.

I was so into Firelight and Moonglow, I really didn't know how I would feel about Winterblaze. I think when you love two books in a series so much you get kind of apprehensive when the series continues. Not too mention in the other books Poppy and Win kind of seemed like sticks in the mud. However, I really love Kristen Callihan so I was really looking forward to reading this book. And it blew me away. I really thought that Firelight was my favorite. I'm absolutely certain that Winterblaze is now my favorite.

I fell in love with Poppy and Win. They have so many things to get through. Win found out that Poppy was hiding things from him in Moonglow. Win was attacked and is no longer with the CID. So they are trying to overcome these things in this book plus a whole plethora of other events. There are things about Poppy's role in the SOS that are absolutely shocking. Actually there are a lot of revelations in this book that I never saw coming, I never even imagined, it never even crossed my mind. And Poppy isn't the only one with secrets.

I loved the action in this book and how Win and Poppy worked together. They were so perfect together. When this book starts they had been separated for a few months. It was not easy with them apart, especially since you can really see how perfect they are for each other. I really think that they had to go through what they did so that they could kind of emerge as these better versions of themselves.

This book was absolutely astonishing. I couldn't believe quite a few things that happened. This story was so perfect. And I will definitely be keeping this one on my favorite books of 2013. Kristen Callihan has absolutely outdone herself with this story. I don't read books more than once often and I absolutely plan on reading all three of these books down the line, especially this one. If you haven't checked this series out yet you absolutely have to. If you've read this series but you're worried about starting the third book, don't be!! It's absolutely perfectly perfect.

Amber I. is now officially 30!

Tuesday, March 19, 2013

*At the time I wrote this post, I had 8 hrs left of being 29.*

Its official I am the big 3-0! Good bye 20s.. I will be mourning all day. Actually I will be working all day so hopefully I will not have time to think about it. I have been preparing for this day since I turned 25. I really hope all my bitching and moping all these years will make this day just not that bad.

  • I did accomplish one of my before 30 goals. I only had 2 so I got half done. And the goal I accomplished was getting a job that I love. And I did it. I am now working at the library. So YAY me! I will keep working on that other goal.

But nothing makes a girl feel better about getting older better then BOOKS! I did get 7 books this month from 6 awesome girls! Thank you so much for making my doomed day better!

#AADSAV Author Spotlight and Giveaway with Amanda Bonilla

Monday, March 18, 2013
Today we are excited to have Amanda Bonilla on the blog. She is sharing one of her favorite fight scenes from Crave the Darkness and doing a giveaway of the book for US readers.

Thanks so much to Awesomesauce Book Club for having me as a guest today! I’m an action junkie. Fight scenes are my favorites to write and so today, I thought I’d share one of my favorite fight scenes from CRAVE THE DARKENSS. Enjoy!

“Did you really think you could fool me, playing dress-up?” he asked with a laugh. “Come now, Trouble, you had to know it wouldn’t work.”
“Well, I gave it the ol’ college try,” I said. “Look, Kade”—I took a tentative step toward my target, my fingers caressing the hilt of my dagger—“you’re a good-looking guy, charming and all that. Who knows, maybe you’ve got brains to boot. Leave the city tonight, and if you promise to never show your pretty face here again, I’ll promise not to ruin your good looks with the edge of my blade. Deal?”
“How I love complicated women,” Kade said with a sigh. Instead of retreating like he should, he took a step closer to me. And then another. “And I’ll bet you’re very, very complicated, aren’t you?”
Damn, he was a sexy SOB. “Nah,” I said, slowly drawing my dagger from the sheath and holding it close to my side. “I’m not complicated at all. I’m a pretty simple girl, really. So, what’s it gonna be, Kade? Are you going to leave my city, or am I going to give you a free face-lift?”
“Give me a kiss, and I’ll think about it.”
Kade closed the distance between us in the blink of an eye. I swung my arm up, the point of the dagger nicking the flesh at his jugular. He stopped dead in his tracks, his clear blue eyes narrowed shrewdly. “Sorry, Kade,” I purred. “I don’t kiss on the first date.”
“Well, then, lucky for me, Trouble,” he said in an equally seductive voice, “this is technically our third date.”
Kade’s movements were a blur in my vision as he knocked my arm aside. The dagger flew out of my hand, landing somewhere in the shadows. I went for my katana, but didn’t get a chance to pull it free from the scabbard. He wrapped his hand around my neck, his fingers constricting any intake of air. Slowly, he backed me to the edge of the building until my heels teetered precariously on the edge.
“You’re not a tease, are you?” he asked, his fingers biting into my flesh. “Because I’d find that disappointing.”
I wanted to grace him with my best snarky comment, but unfortunately, Kade’s death grip on my throat wouldn’t allow any air in—or words out. He gave me a good, rough shake, and my right heel slipped completely off the ledge. Do it, dipshit, I thought. Give me a proper shove. Shadows don’t worry about things like gravity. In fact . . . I was tired of dicking around.
I joined with the shadows and left my corporeal form behind in a dusting of black mist. Before Kade could process what had happened, I drew the katana from my back. I wasn’t about to waste any more time with his jackassed posturing. This was business and it was time to go to work. Right leg behind my left, I drew back my sword arm, ready to strike. Cambion or not, Kade wasn’t going anywhere without his head.
He spun around to face me, dodging out of the way before I could properly decapitate him. Damn, he was fast. Faster than any supernatural creature I’d ever gone up against. I repositioned my aim, swung the blade in an upward cut, and Kade jumped backward. Strands of his shining blond hair drifted on the breeze from where the katana’s blade had brushed his long bangs. “That was a little too close for comfort,” he mused, his fist swinging around and catching me right in the jaw.
The katana flew from my grip as I stumbled backward, unable to achieve any kind of sure footing in the ill-fitting stiletto boots. Goddamn Anya and her shitty fashion sense. Before I could right myself, Kade jumped me, grabbing me by the collar of the leather jumpsuit and pulling me close. “You owe me a kiss,” he said, laying his mouth to mine.
The moment our lips met, I felt a strange pull from the center of my being, like I’d let out a great gust of breath followed by a delicious rush that chased through my veins like fire. My legs felt suddenly weak, and my head spun. The sensation of being pelted with tiny beads of hail made my skin tingle, both hot and cold as whatever it was that Kade pulled from me left my body and entered his.
“Whoo!” Kade whooped to the sky as he pulled away. “Damn, what a rush!” He grabbed on to the long rope of my braided hair, forcing my face to his until our noses were almost touching. “I knew you weren’t an ordinary Shaede. What are you?”
I struggled for the energy to form even simple words. I felt light-headed and giddy as if I’d just downed a couple of drinks and was beginning to feel the buzz. Forget sex, Kade had managed to feed off my energy from a simple kiss. Granted, the kiss he’d laid on me was hardcore, but still . . . “Try that again, Kade”—my words slurred as I wobbled on my feet—“and I’ll introduce your nuts to the pointy end of my dagger. You get me?”
Kade flashed an angelic smile, his expression rapt. “A man could become addicted to what you’ve got to offer,” he said, moving in for another kiss. “I could get used to having you around, Trouble.”
I fumbled with my belt, desperate to defend myself before Kade could further weaken me. My fingertips brushed the hilt of one of my throwing knifes, just the weapon I needed for Kade’s too close quarters. I jabbed the sharp point just below Kade’s ribs, plunging the blade into his flesh. He sucked his breath in sharply and shoved me to the ground as he surveyed the damage I’d done.
“I warned you, Kade,” I said, pushing myself up to stand. “I bite.”

About Crave the Darkness:

Nothing comes easy for Darian. Her heightened powers make her indispensable to the Shaede Nation, but dangerous missions have driven her lover, Tyler, to his breaking point. Darian must salvage their bond, but a new assignment to protect Anya—a fellow Shaede and the first of their kind to become pregnant in centuries—stands in their way.
It doesn’t help that the two Shaedes are longtime rivals and share nothing besides mutual hatred. But when it becomes clear that someone—or something—is bent on destroying the expectant mother and her unborn child, Darian must put her feelings aside and track down Anya’s would-be assassin.
As she probes into Anya’s past, Darian digs up long-buried secrets—and a connection between Tyler and the mission that could destroy everything between them…

The Amber Feature

Saturday, March 16, 2013
Today on The Amber Feature we are just going to talk books. Nothing specific, just talking.

AI: So Amber R, what has been your favorite Adult Book this year?

AR: It came out forever ago. But The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly, the second Hollow book was soo good. I'm sure there were more that were just as good but I can't think of them right now.

AI: How about your favorite YA book this year?

AR: Honestly, I'm going to have to go with Indigo Spell on this one. I read that book so long ago and I'm still thinking about it.

AI: What book have you been wanting to read but haven't yet but swear you are going to get to this year?

AR: Getting further along in the Glory St. Clair series. I started that at the beginning of the year and I've only read a few books and it's such a great series.

AI: I recommend you books all day every day what is one of your favorites I recommended you this year? ex. Jane True series, The Hollow series.....(yes I like to toot my own horn, shut it!)

AR: I have devoured the Jane True series. I'm so looking forward to continuing on in The Hollow series too.

AI: What book are you most looking forward to coming out?

AR: Probably Clockwork Princess or Twice Tempted, which are both coming out soon! Those are the first two that come to mind. I'm sure there are more though.

AI: Any disappointing books you've read in 2013.

AR: Not yet! Thankfully. I'm sure it'll happen though. Haha.

AR: What about for you? Anything that seriously sucked so far?

AI: I just looked over my goodreads list and I seriously don't even think I had a 3 star read yet this year. So far so good.

AI: If you had a time machine what book would you go back and re-read again so it was the first time you read it?

AR: Ahhh. Uhmm. Arrrrgg. I can't pick! Uhmmm, maybe the Harry Potter series??

AI: Can you believe I am about to be 30?

AR: No, I'm shocked.

AI: Favorite Man (In a book, of course) of the year?

AR: So far I'm going with Anyan from the Jane True series or Adrian from the Bloodlines series.

AI: What are you getting me for my birthday?

AR: It's a secret. In a perfect fantasy land I'd take me and you on vacation to some Caribbean island. I'd wear a ton of sun screen, you'd get a tan. We would get drunk and stay in a luxury hotel and swim all the time. Ahhhh, the good life.

AR: What author would you meet that you haven't yet?

AI: Oh this is hard. Lets see Eve Langlais, Stacey Kennedy, Kristen Callihan, Amanda Stevens, Keri Arthur, Patricia Briggs, Jennifer L Armentrout, Cassandra Clare, Nicole Peeler, Jennifer Estep.... I am going to stop there. I know I forgot some.

AR: You're working at a library now, which I think is every readers dream. How do you like it?

AI: I flipping love it! Do you know how cool it is when someone comes in that reads books like we do and needs recommendations? Its the best thing ever. You know I love recommending books so this is my favorite part of the job. Then I also get to talk books with people, also amazing. I mean I do actually work but I love it! I am so happy I got my foot in the door. Its the best job ever! (here is a view from my desk)

AR: What's one series that you don't own that you must purchase?

AI: Downside Ghost Series by Stacia Kane (I did get 1 for my Bday) Jane True series by Nicole Peeler (also got one for my Bday) The Elemental Assassin Series by Jennifer Estep (also got 1 for my Bday)  Kate Daniels series by Ilona Andrews, Graveyard Queen series by Amanda Stevens, Lux series by JLA, Unbound series by Rachel Vincent. There are a bunch of series where I own a few books but not all of them but I won't get into that.

AR: What are your thoughts of all these books being made into movies lately?

AI: Its bitter sweet. They never make them as good as the book, the cast never looks like what I thought but I still get excited to see them. The only 2 that I actually enjoyed was Harry Potter and Hunger Games.

AR: If you were going to write a book, what would be the name of your main heroine and hero and also what would their supernatural powers be?

AI: Heroine would totally be Amber and my super power would maybe a werewolf or a witch or a werewitch. My hero would be a werewolf and his name is undecided. Since I named the heroine after me I guess I should name the guy Eric after my husband but that seems too easy. I might have to change her name then. How about Ember and Quinn ( I always liked that name) This is hard stop being mean.

AR: Do you ever read any books more than once?

AI: I use to but not so much anymore. I did re-read The Host and I am glad I did because this time around I LOVED it. But I haven't done that in years.

AR: What was has been your favorite book so far this year?

AI: I think I am going to go with Winterblaze. I freaking loved it!!!

AR: What book are you most looking forward to this year?

AI: so so much. Twice Tempted, Clockwork Princess, Tempest Reborn, The next Elemental Assassin book, The next Morganville Vampire book, Sweet Peril, The Rising, Magic Rises, Oath Bound. and we know I forgot a lot here too.

And that is all folks!
