Darkness Splintered takes us right to the beginning of the end. By the end of this book we have a clear idea that the culmination of Risa's never-ending search is coming to a close. The first gate to hell is open, the key to the second gate is in the hands of a dark sorceress and Risa must find her before the gate opens.

Unfortunately she's coming off of a 3 day bender and now dealing with the repercussions of banishing Azriel. She's also being pressured by all sides to find the second key or her friends and family will be murdered one by one. Hunter is of course threatening this but so is her father. She's also coming to terms with the changes Azriel made to her basic life force, Tao being possessed by a fire elemental, and trying to get things done to make sure that none of her friends die.

The pressure is on in this book and no one is giving Risa any leeway. Not that they have at all up to this point but she is getting no where on her hunt. There are certain pieces of information that her father has but he's not giving out anything of course. Hunter is being as psychotic as usual. And as a slight spoiler, Azriel doesn't stay gone long. But I think we all knew that he would be back.

As we get closer to the end, we can kind of see loose ends being tied up. People or beings who really should be out of the picture, out of the picture. As with the rest of the books, this book is absolutely action packed. We get romance, action, mystery, and everything you expect and want from this series in this book. I love this series so much. We get a taste of Riley, Rhoan, and Quinn as well. And I love and miss those guys. I can't wait to see how things turn out in the next book and where this series ends up.

    1. I was late to the Riley series so I read them all pretty quickly. This was a nice consolation prize to not having Riley in my life anymore. I really enjoy this series though.
