Lily Parker is a newly formed Adept. She has a specific skill called firespell that is crazy strong and she's just learning how to use it. Being part of Enclave 3 with her new bff Scout and her kinda crush werewolf Jason isn't the easiest thing ever. They're out almost every night, searching through the tunnels for Reapers or having meetings to discuss strategy. Along with school work, worrying about what her parents are really doing in Germany, and trying to be a normal teenager it's definitely a trying time.
There are mysterious trails of slime in the tunnels. The Enclave is on a mission to find out what is causing it. And it turns out it's some kind of vampire-hybrid that the Reapers are working on. To find out more members of Enclave 3 and 2 team up to find out how this happened and how they're going to stop the Reapers creepy experiments. Which leads them right in between a fight between two warring covens of vampires. Thankfully they're able to use their skills to get away but it's not easy.
Lily and Scout are both trying to enhance their skills so that they can use them more effectively. And they're also trying to outmaneuver the "brat pack". Because those girls are definitely intent on causing Lily and Scout trouble. Sebastian, one of the Reapers, has been following Lily around because they need "to talk". Obviously Lily isn't giving him the time of day or at least not at first. Sebastian is tall, dark, and handsome and there is something about him that Lily can't really turn down. So he tells her a story about how things aren't always black and white, most things are actually gray.
I really like these books. I can't wait to see how this all ends. I really end up tied up in them and reading through pretty quickly. Chloe Neill has that skill of enveloping you in her books and not letting you out until the very end. Things in this book are mysterious, snarky, and interesting, three main things that I need in every book I love. If you add a bit of romance, some undying friendships, and good winning over evil and I'm all in.
