Rachel is such a mess but she's a lovely mess. She has a heart of gold but her execution is sometimes off. Right off the rip Rachel is on the hunt for her memories and a murderer. While she's on a mission right away, she definitely doesn't get her answers right away. In true Rachel fashion, she fucks up a lot on the way. But even with the mess ups, she still grows and she still learns whats what and who's who.
I think that while these books normally have several different things going on all at once, this one has even more going on if that's possible. However, Harrison has a way of pulling everything together and keeping everything straight so you're not insanely confused. Rachel's elusive brother finally makes an appearance. And man, they have a weird relationship. They love each other, which is obvious. But Robbie has some major issues with Rachel's profession. Also, he's a catalyst for some major changes in Rachel's life.
There's also a banshee on the loose, a random ghost shows up who apparently Rachel knew for one night when she was 18. Rachel is hell bent on helping the ghost, his name is Pierce. And Jenks, Al and everyone else is convinced that Rachel has the hots for him. She mostly proves them wrong. Al's still around and he plays poor Rachel like a fiddle, like always. Rachel is weak in this book, a close call with a banshee strips her aura thin. And to top it all off Rachel is shunned for being a black witch.
I love this series. I love these characters. I love this author. And this book left off so strong, I'm moving right along to the next book. Don't listen to anyone who tells you that these aren't good books. They're amazing and I want to read them again and I just started reading them. I can't wait to see what Rachel does next and where all this ends up.
