While this is the 2nd book in the series you can definitely read it as a stand alone. This book is action packed and full of surprises. Riley is a goddess who specializes in metal magic. A goddess is basically a witch who has manipulation to some degree of something nature based. However Riley's situation is a bit different. For one she didn't even know anything about this special goddess world. For another have a metal affinity is really rare, not too mention that she's been on the run for like 6 months from a group of people who are targeting her for some reason. This leads her to take drastic measures and she reaches out to the Society, which basically helps goddesses.

Which brings us to Sam, Riley meets up with him to have him help her with what's going on in her life. Sam used to work for the Society but has been on a hiatus for quite some time for personal reasons. As soon as Riley and Sam get together they start coming up with a plan. They head to the Society's headquarters in Boston and run into a schlew of troubles along the way. There is a ton of action in this book along with a great story. Sam and Riley automatically have a chemistry together. But of course things aren't easy, they never are in a great story.

All in all I really liked this book. I think there was a good mix of everything that you would want. It did move kind of fast but it wasn't hard to follow and everything made sense. I really like that even though this book is the second in the series you can read it as a stand alone book if you want. However, at the end it does leave an excellent teaser for what's to come in the next book. I really think that if you haven't read this book or checked into this series yet, you definitely should.
