Jennifer Estep has done it again. And by it, I mean made me hungry. Does anyone else get ravenous while reading her books? She's done other stuff too, don't let my stomach fool you. Estep can weave a meal tale right in front of your eyes that seems so vivid and real. We're back with our favorite assassin, Gin Blanco or better known as The Spider. Ashland has a new villain who is causing havoc. Well he's technically not a new villain because he's been around before. Although since Fletcher thwarted him last time, he's been laying low.

Harley Grimes is a 1920's gangster wannabe who lives up in the mountains in Ashland. He is an old foe of Fletcher, Sophia, and Jo-Jo. We all know from before that Sophia has had a not so easy past and Grimes is the main reason for that. Fletcher went after him once and failed but now that Fletcher is dead, Grimes thinks it's open season. He's after Sophia...again. Little does he know that even though the Tin Man is gone, The Spider is still alive and well. But this is no easy feat for Gin. Harley has a band of men who are ready and willing to defend him. He also has a ruthless, evil sister who is a fire elemental and he's one too. Grimes thinks he's 10 feet tall and bulletproof and he just might prove to be fatal to The Spider.

All of the regular bunch are there Jo-Jo, Sophia, Finn, Bria, and we get some extra help from Phillip, Cooper, and even Owen too. Owen apparently has realized the error of his ways and is trying to convince Gin that he really cares for her. He's helping her with the fight against Grimes and showing her he still cares. And while Gin still is absolutely in love with Owen, she can't help remember how easily he left her after he swore and promised that he would never leave her. Although I was rooting for Owen I was really glad to know that Gin just didn't take him back with open arms. Gin deserves good things in her life and after what happened, well let's just say I'm glad with the way that things turned out.

This is one of my absolute favorite authors and series. I was so happy to read this book. It was fast paced, action packed, full of humor, heart break, and a story that just drags you in. I can't wait to see what happens next in Gin's crazy, awesome life. I'm absolutely in love with this series and I want everyone to read it so we can all gush over how awesome it is.

I always love when Amber R reviews a book first so I can do a very informal review and just rant!  Now I will say I loved this book. I think its the bloodiest book we have ever seen. We see Gin in a whole new way. She is ruthless and gets shit done. I think she has been pushed too far when the people she loves are in danger. So lets not beat around the bush and get to the part where I talk about Owen. We all know that is what I want and need.

OWEN!
You are too little, too late. Maybe had you have came to this epiphany in the last book I would have welcomed you back with open arms. But for you to come back half way through the book because you find out Gin needs back up and then tell her you realize what an ass you weere is not enough. Why didn't you come to her as soon as you realized it? Why wait until you were forced to be by her? Your pretty words are not good enough. And yes Gin may have held off for like a little bit but not long enough. You should suffer a lot more for the pain you have caused. She should not have gave in so easily. I know you threw yourself quite literally into the fire for her but that doesn't change the damage that was done. I can't be okay with this. I need more! I love you, but I can't take you back yet.

Anyways there is always Finn to lighten up my day. Why do they have to have a brother/sister relationship? He would be perfect for her. Oh I thought Bria was dropping pregnancy hints, anyone else see that? Maybe I was over reading some things but if she announces she is pregnant I won't be surprised.

Anyways I LOVED this book. It was a great read. We get time with all our favorites and even a lot of Fletcher memories. I wasn't pleased with the last book because we really didn't get to see all of the other side characters so I was happy we had so much face time with them. To me they are as much part of this series as Gin is. I can't wait to read more!!

  1. Amber I - That's ok. Owen can be mine. ;p
Pregnancy hints? I know we talked about this but I didn't see any of those. But just think how freaked out Finn would be if it was true. LOL

    1. There were a couple of things she said that were pretty suspicious. But we might be reading too much into it.

    2. I hope not... there was a reference to taking her little white pill... she'd best stop those if she is!

  2. Amber R: YES! I totally want to eat Gin's cooking. I totally drool and get ravenous reading these books!

Amber I: did you read the novella, Kiss of Venom before this? I liked it because we got so much detail about Owen's true feelings before this all happens. It made a big difference for me.

    2. I have not read Kiss of Venom. I read this book way before it was published and Kiss of Venom came out after that. Then I was not in a reading mood. But I will get to it eventually.
