Look at me branching out and reading a steampunk book with very little paranormal. Seriously this isn't much of a paranormal book at all and I loved it. I am just so proud of myself. Tarnished was a great read and I am really happy that I decided to give it a try, especially since its not really in my comfort zone.
The world itself is just so intriguing. There's the upper and lower London, one where the wealthy and classy live the other where the smells are so bad you need to wear goggles and respirators. Cherry is another heroine that is very flawed. She is an opium addict. She lives in upper London where she is to be a proper lady but to get her fix she goes to the lower half where she takes jobs as a collector to pay for her habit. She really lives two different lives. But when she becomes a target her lives start to crash.
There are two love interests. I mean its not bad like a real triangle its all still new but of coarse I already picked the one I like. And he of coarse is on the lower London and is pretty much a thug. I really hope to see more of him.
The only kinda paranormal in this was with this magic dust that Cherry is exposed to. I won't tell you exactly what happens there but luckily my favorite guy was there to help her out. ;) Tarnished just totally caught me by surprise. I really only wanted to read it after meeting Karina at RT. I had no idea what is was about but when I read the summary I admit I was hesitant. But I wanted to try something new and gave it a go. I am really glad I did. There is still so much left undiscovered a lot of story lines that I need answers to. Really I think only one thing was solved in this book. While that usually bothers me, I am not so much. I am excited to read more and can't wait to crack open book 2. If you want to give Steampunk a try, I think this is a perfect place to start!
