 Hanna Martine

Please Introduce yourself to our readers?

Hey there! I'm Hanna and I write The Elementals paranormal romance series and the Highland Games contemporary romance series, both for Berkley Sensation/Penguin.

I'm a travel fiend, addicted to new experiences and places and cultures. I am neither extrovert nor introvert, needing to be both at various points in my life. While I live in the suburbs of Chicago and claim to hate suburban life, I do need my private outdoor space and would probably suffocate in the city I so dearly love. I have a wonderful five year-old daughter whom I live for and a hysterically funny husband of twelve years.

Can you tell us a little about the world you've created?

Ooooh, okay. I'm currently writing in two worlds: both modern-day, one with magic, one without.

The Elementals follows the different races who command the classic elements: earth, air, water, fire, spirit. They live in secret in the modern day, warily circling around each other while trying to co-exist with humans. The first book, LIQUID LIES, is about Gwen, the future leader of the water elementals and Reed, the human mercenary who kidnaps her. The follow-up, A TASTE OF ICE, is about Xavier, an escaped magic slave, and Cat, the sweet water elemental who doesn't know what she is. I'm writing the third book, DROWNING IN FIRE, right now and it will come out in 2014.

The Highland Games books are completely different. They are fun, flirty and really sexy. Set against the backdrop of the modern-day Scottish Highlands Games taking place in summertime New England, the books follow the life and loves of people involved in the games' production. The first book, LONG SHOT, is about Jen, a big NYC event planner who returns to the small New Hampshire town of her youth to save the local Highland Games, only to come up against Leith, the local athletic hero who's won the games three years in a row but has since hung up his kilt. I am sooooooo excited to get this book into readers' hands! It releases October 1, 2013.

What are you most excited about at AADSAV?

To actually go! I've been hearing about it for years--from authors who said it was a wonderful experience and a great way to personally connect with readers, and from readers who said it was a blast and a half. I'm looking forward to playing both roles, but I'm most excited about exposing my books to new readers.

Any authors you are excited to meet?

I will probably go all fangirl on Kelly Gay, whose Charlie Madigan urban fantasy series blew me away. You might want to buy earplugs for my squealing.

Tell us about your latest release?

My latest release is an Elementals novella, "No Surprise More Magical," in the paranormal romance anthology UNBOUND. I'm honored to have been included with the amazing authors Angela Knight, Jennifer Ashley and Jean Johnson. The novella follows David and Kelsey, two water elementals with a broken arranged marriage dealing with the aftermath of LIQUID LIES.

Any restaurants in Savannah you plan on hitting up? (I would love to know, I want some ideas for myself)

I am on deadline until July 31 (Elementals #3 is due then), and as soon as that book is off to my editor I plan on researching Savannah and doing some more detailed planning. I'm not very good at multi-tasking!

Are you planning on dressing up for any of the balls?

Absolutely! I am on one of the hosts for the Elemental Ball (appropriate, right? haha). On top of giving away some seriously awesome elemental swag for attendees, I'm hosting a "fire" table. I want a Priscilla Queen of the Desert-level fire costume, but I'm sure I will never find the time to put together something of that magnitude.

Any sites you are planning on seeing in Savannah?

I'm a walker and a wanderer, so I really want to take a couple of hours and meander through the streets. I was in Savannah, oh, twelve or so years ago and I remember driving through all these incredible neighborhoods I was dying to explore on foot with my camera.

Desire is released in these original stories by four masters of paranormal romance.
Hanna Martine expands on the fascinating world she introduced in Liquid Lies. "No Surprise More Magical" returns to the Elementals world, three months after the conclusion of Liquid Lies. David has grown from an awkward jokester teenager into a powerful, smart Ofarian soldier ... but his unrequited love for the brainy, beautiful Kelsey has remained steadfast since high school. Dr. Kelsey Evans has been mixing magic with mundane medicine, and a faction of Ofarians doesn't like it. When a terrible threat rises against the new Ofarian leadership, David and Kelsey are forced to question their loyalty, their duty, and their love.
Also included in the Unbound anthology: New York Times bestselling author Angela Knight revisits the world of Guardian, USA Today bestselling author Jennifer Ashley continues her Shifters Unbound series, and national bestselling author Jean Johnson returns to her Vulland Chronicles.
