Para-RT13 with Gerry Bartlett + Giveaway

Monday, April 1, 2013
Carmel from Rabid Reads and I have been stalking paranormal authors that will be attending the RT Booklovers Convention in Kansas City on May 1-5. We’ll both be there in all of our book nerd glory so we decided to do a bloggy event to get psyched up even more for the convention!. Its a month long event in April that showcases some Paranormal Authors that are going to be going to The RT Convention.

Introduce Yourself to our readers
Hi, I’m Gerry Bartlett, author of the Real Vampires series for Berkley Publishing. I live in League City, Texas, south of Houston. When I’m not writing, I hunt for treasures for my antiques business on the historic Strand on Galveston Island. I’m a widow with a son and a spoiled dog named Jet.

Tell us a little about your books?
The Real Vampires series features Glory St. Clair, a vampire who was bloating when she was turned in 1604 by her hunky Scottish boyfriend. She’s been stuck with too-generous curves ever since. She runs her own vintage clothing store in Austin, Texas and has a variety of wacky friends, some of them hot guys that she has been tempted by in the course of the series. Book 9 was just released on March 5, 2013, Real Vampires Know Hips Happen.

Is this your first RT convention?
No, I was in Chicago last year and attended two in Houston when it came here.

What are you most looking forward to at RT?
I love to meet fans of the series and introduce readers who haven’t discovered Glory before.
If you've been to one before any tips for us newbies? Get out and go to as many events as possible. There is so much to do and see. I was thrilled last year to see Ann Rice speak. I had loved her vampire books for YEARS. I even rode in an elevator with her. I was a dumb-struck fangirl.

Where can we find you at RT?

Are you on any panels going to any parties etc. I’ll be part of a group of authors who write about vampires. We’re hosting a fun Vampire Author Meet and Greet where you can drink Bloody Marys, with or without alcohol, munch on Godiva chocolates, and get a chance to win great prizes. You’ll also go away with a cool tote, free books and swag. I hope to meet some friends of the series there. Look us up!

If we seen you at the bar what drink would be in your hand?
I’m a white wine drinker with a two drink limit.

Since this event is for paranormal authors, can you tell us more about the paranormal in your book?
Glory and most of her friends are vampires, traditionally so, but she has friends who are shape-shifters, a Siren, and two ghosts have popped up too. She’s fought demons and Lucifer in some of the books. I have used many paranormal entities in order to keep the series fresh. Glory’s not as normal as she seems either.

Tell us a little about your newest book?
In Real Vampires Know Hips Happen, Glory heads to Scotland to try to mend her relationship with her main squeeze, Jeremy Blade aka Jeremiah Campbell. Soon after she arrives at Castle Campbell, Jerry is attacked and suffers from amnesia. He doesn’t remember Glory or their relationship. There are certain things Glory would just as soon he forget, but their love isn’t one of them. With a mother she never knew suddenly on the scene, Glory has her hands full.

What inspired you to write in the paranormal genre?
I am critique partners with Nina Bangs. She was doing well with paranormals first and dared me to try my hand at writing one. I took up the challenge and Glory was born.

How are you traveling to RT? Where are you coming from? Any interesting hiccups?
Road trip! I’ll be driving with two buddies, my pal Nina Bangs and friend historical author Vicky Dreiling. We all live in the League City area and will be coming up together. Since I’m driving, I’ll be making a few stops at interesting antique stores. They won’t like that but they can stay in the car and check their email while I shop.

Why do you attend conventions?
It’s fun to get out from in front of the computer and meet readers. It’s easy to feel isolated when you’re a writer. I love to hear what people think about the books and appreciate suggestions for places I can take the story. Bring it on! I like to hear your ideas.

Does plaid make your butt look big?
Glory St. Clair knows that it does. But she'll even throw on a Campbell kilt if it will help her win her hunky Scottish lover back. She's risked everything to cross the Atlantic to confront him in Scotland. Now powerful forces are determined to keep them apart. An attack on Jeremiah Campbell leaves him with amnesia and he doesn't remember her or their centuries together. Glory must win her man back and prove to her nemisis that she's where she's always wanted to be, even if it means dragging Jerry back to Texas.
Jeremiah doesn't remember the woman who claims they've been together so long but he's more than willing to take what she freely offers--her ancient blood and her voluptuous body. But when she tries to get him to travel to the New World in a flying machine and to work with his ancient enemy, he thinks she's cracked. In his mind, he's stuck in 1590. This modern world is almost too much for him. But there's something about this woman with the generous curves... Soon enough he finds himself risking death for her more than once. Who or what seems determined to keep them apart? The ancient warrior in him won't stand for it. And the fight is on.
