My name is Meredith Gentry, but of course it's not my real name. I dare not even whisper my true name after dark for fear that one hushed word will travel over the night winds to the soft ear of my aunt, the Queen of Air and Darkness. She wants me dead. I don't even know why...

I fled the high court of Faerie three years ago and have been in hiding ever since. As Merry Gentry, I am a private investigator for the Grey Detective Agency: Supernatural Problems, Magical Solutions. My magical skills, scorned at the courts of Faerie, are valued in the human world. Even by human standards, my magic isn't flashy, which is fine by me. Flashy attracts attention and I can't afford that.

Rumour has it that I am dead. Not quite. I am Princess Meredith NicEssus. To speak that name after dark is to call down a knock upon your door from a hand that can kill you with a touch. I have been careful, but not careful enough. The shadows have found me, and they are going to take me back home, one way or another.

So the running is over. But the fighting has just begun...

Rich, sensual, brimming with dangerous magic, A Kiss of Shadows is a dazzling tour-de-force where folklore, fantasy and erotically charged adventure collide.

I absolutely loved this book. Now I've read some of the other reviews about it and there is a lot of comparison to the Anita Blake series. Luckily, I haven't read those so I didn't have a bias. There was a lot of sex in this book, a lot of almost sex really. But I don't think that took away from the story line. I was really interested to find out what would happen next.

I really like Merry. She knows what she wants and what she doesn't. Although when she returns to Faerie she's not playing by her own rules. She has to follow the ways of the court and the whims of her aunt, the queen. Otherwise she could end up dead and quick. And it comes close. Especially once word start gets out as to why the queen has invited Merry to come back into Faerie. Three assasination attempts in one day is insane. We have a pretty clear view on who the culprit is.

But there are a lot of sex scenes in this book. 99.9% of them are pretty hot, I've got to say. However, there is one, that everyone complains about....I'm not going to complain. Obviously, not my thing BUT it's fiction and Merry is a freaking sidhe, they like weird shit. So I could scan the pages and not need to focus on only that one scene. However, at the end of that scene we do learn that Merry has some pretty fantastically awful powers.

All in all, I really liked this book. It's erotica so of course there is a ton of sex.. which was hot. But there is a good story there too and I can't wait to see what happens next. Also, Frost is friggen hot. Frost and Doyle were my favorite from the guard. And I kinda want Merry and Jeremy to bone. I don't know if anyone else feels like this. But if she's going to sex up people, he should be one of them. I can't wait to read more from this series.

  1. I absolutely love this series! And I did not know that it is classified as erotica nowadays. I don't read erotica, but I do read and love Laurell K. Hamilton books. Strange, I know.
Now I really do wonder which scene you mean ...

  2. I tried this series. I got to book 3 and quit. It's just seems like the later Anita books just with the names changed. Sex was hot but like Anita it got to be too much. The men in Merry's world ALL reminded me of men in Anita's world. Like I said it seems like LKH just changed the names of the men.
I you can definitely tell she started the series while in the middle of Anita's.

    1. I'm really glad that I haven't read the Anita series then. I know Amber said that she needed a break in between the books because there was just too much sex. So I'm definitely going to continue on right now. I'm probably going to have to pick up the Anita series at some point to see the similarities.
