Having prevented the war between the witches and vampires, Gwen Sparks was ready to move on and heal. She thought she could go home and her life would return to normal—she thought wrong.

Being a spirit walker offers her protection, but it also put her life in danger as others covet what she possesses. A bounty is placed on Gwen and rogues, who will stop at nothing to get the job done, relentlessly track her.

With no choice but to head to New Orleans to retrieve a special dagger, Gwen comes face to face with the angel of Death and the feelings she has been denying. Living in a world where everyone has a motive, can Gwen find the inner strength she needs to save her own life?

I was so excited to get my hands on the 3rd book in The Gwen Sparks series, books 1 and 2 where both 5 stars for me but this one fell short for me. I am not one to give bad reviews and I am not going to here but I feel I owe it to myself and my readers to be honest so here it goes.

Things that just bugged me:
  • The love Triangle
Gwen was giving me whiplash with her back and forth between Aidan and Dorian. One minute she is naked and about to get it on and literally the next minute (she got interrupted getting it on) she was telling the other guy she would consider running away with him. That is just one example, this happened a lot and I would just roll my eyes in frustration.Whoever she happened to be by in a scene is who she would be attracted to or mess around with. She led one guy on a lot and it was annoying.

  • When you really can't fight your own battles, suck it up and admit it!
Dorian is constantly saving her in this book. And every time he does she gets upset with him. Then the day when he asks her to not go out on her own she was almost beaten to death, she throws a fit and goes out to just get attacked again and needs him to save her. Then when he again asks her not to go out alone what does she do? Yells at him that she is not a child and goes out and guess what? Gets attacked again and needs him to save her. Its fine that she needed his help, he is a bad ass but for her to get all high and mighty about him not wanting her to go out was stupid. She clearly couldn't do it so why act like she was tough enough. Then when she would argue the next time she would be better made her sound like a child. Don't piss off the guy that saves your ass time and time again and hey maybe take his advice and don't get over confident when you have yet to prove yourself.

  • The Big Bang
Where is the story? Most of this book is about the relationships. Yes there is a bit of the story in there but its mostly her going out getting attacked and Dorian saving the day. We know she is being hunted and it happens but when the bad guy comes, Gwen can't defend herself then Dorian kicks ass. It was mostly will she get back with Aidan, will Dorian and her finally have sex? Mainly will her and Dorain have sex? The big story happens after 80% of the book. Then the big show down comes and its over in a few pages.

  • The Ending
I am not a fan at all. It leaves book 4 to start off super duper annoying. I guess its a cliffhanger but not a cliffhanger that I am wanting to run out and get my hands on the next book, its more me sighing and saying REALLY? I already know the beginning of that book is going to tick me off.

Overall I am just not that happy. There was a few things I liked mainly towards the ending. But it wasn't enough to get me back on track with the book. I think Gwen needs to grow up a lot more for me to really like her again. She started out in the other books more bad ass but here she lost that. I hope the old Gwen comes back.

    1. I really liked the first books, this one just did not do it for me. I was really sad to see the turn this series took in this book. I am planning on reading the 4th though because I liked the first 2 so well. I'm hoping it'll turn back around.
