 Jennifer Estep
and her newest book

Amber R. did a quickie interview and we will also be giving away a copy of Crimson Frost below (US Only)

 Interview

  • Do you mind giving us a little of history about the Mythos Academy series for our readers who haven't started it yet?
JE: The Mythos Academy young adult urban fantasy series focuses on Gwen Frost, a 17-year-old Gypsy girl who has the gift of psychometry, or the ability to know an object’s history just by touching it. After a serious freak-out with her magic, Gwen is shipped off to Mythos Academy, a school for the descendants of ancient warriors like Spartans, Valkyries, Amazons, and more.
Books in the series are Touch of Frost, Kiss of Frost, Dark Frost, and Crimson Frost, which was released on Dec. 24. Midnight Frost, the fifth book, is tentatively set to be released in August 2013. Folks can visit my website at www.jenniferestep.com for excerpts and more information about the books.

  • I know you said that you got your idea to write the Mythos Academy books from Clash of the Titans, was doing the research to write a series surrounding Greek mythology hard?
JE: I remember watching the old Clash of the Titans movie back when we would have movie days in school. Over the years, I also read stuff like The Iliad and The Odyssey for school assignments. I’ve just always enjoyed mythology and all the stories of the gods, goddesses, warriors, and creatures battling each other and going on these epic quests. One day, I thought it would be cool to write my own mythology book with my own characters and magic/world building, so that’s what I did.
I do some research into the various gods, goddesses, myths, etc., and I like learning more about Greek and other mythology. I try to take the myths, gods, and more, and put my own spin on things and tell the story that I want to tell.

  • You're scheduled for six books in the series, throughout the series will we transition to an adult series or will it stay YA?
JE: As of right now, it will remain a YA series until the end, although the characters will grow and change along the way.

  • Did you find that writing YA was harder or easier than your adult series?
JE: I think there are challenges no matter what type of book that you write. With my adult books, I like being able to write something that’s dark and gritty.

But I also really like being about to write something that’s a little lighter and tell more of a coming-of-age story with my Mythos Academy books. So far, I’m having a blast writing in the YA genre.

  • I actually just started the third book Dark Frost, do Gwen and Logan become "official" in this book?
JE: Well, I don’t want to spoil the book for folks who haven’t read that far in the series yet, so I’ll just say Gwen and Logan’s relationship takes some new twists and turns in Dark Frost.

  • Do you use real people that you know as models for your characters in this series? If so, can you direct me to the real life Logan Quinn? Haha. Just kidding but seriously I love the chemistry between Gwen and him.
JE: No, I don’t really base my characters on people that I know. But I’m glad that you are enjoying Gwen and Logan’s characters. Happy reading, everyone!

About Crimson Frost:
For a moment, a face flashed before my eyes—the most hideous face I’d ever seen. No matter how hard I tried to forget what had happened, I saw him everywhere I went. It was Loki—the evil god that I’d helped set free against my will.

I should have known that my first official date with Logan Quinn was destined to end in disaster. If we’d gotten into a swordfight, or been ambushed by Reapers, I’d have been more prepared. But getting arrested mid-sip at the local coffee hangout? I didn’t see that one coming.

I’ve been accused of purposely helping the Reapers free Loki from his prison—and the person leading the charge against me is Linus Quinn, Logan’s dad. The worst part is that pretty much everyone at Mythos Academy thinks I’m guilty. If I’m going to get out of this mess alive, I’ll have to do it myself…

  21. Great post! I fell in love with Ms. Estep's work from the moment I started Spider's Bite. The first line was perfect. So when I found out she had a YA series I jumped on board and haven't looked back since. I can't decide if Crimson Frost or Dark Frost is my favorite in the series so far.

I don't know how you do it Ms. Estep, but you sure know how to make us fall in love the your characters and also know how to hit us in the gut. That ending was brutal. I loved it! lol Can't wait to see what happens next.
