Once upon a time,  fairies were the stuff of bedtime stories and sweet dreams. Then came  the mutations, and the dreams became nightmares. Mosquito-size fairies  now indulge their taste for human blood—and for most humans, a fairy  bite means insanity or death. Luckily, Annabelle Lee isn’t most humans.  The hard-drinking, smart-mouthed, bicycle-riding redhead is immune to  fairy venom, and able to do the dirty work most humans can’t. Including  helping law enforcement— and Cane Cooper, the bayou’s sexiest  detective—collect evidence when a body is discovered outside the  fairy-proof barricades of her Louisiana town

But Annabelle isn’t  equipped to deal with the murder of a sixyear- old girl or a former  lover-turned-FBI snob taking an interest in the case. Suddenly her  already bumpy relationship with Cane turns even rockier, and even the  most trust-worthy friends become suspects. Annabelle’s life is  imploding: between relationship drama, a heartbreaking murder  investigation, Breeze-crazed drug runners, and a few too many rum and  Cokes, Annabelle is a woman on the run—from her past, toward her future,  and into the arms of a darkness waiting just for her.

I know this book has been out for a year but this is one of the best new books that I've read in a while.

Fairies are not your Tinkerbell variety in this story. They're small, nasty, poisonous, and they will bite and infect you before you can blink. And then you'll end up bat shit crazy and locked away. There are iron fences around towns, iron suits, and iron plated cars. Because iron does in fact repel the fairies. Some people are immune to them, the fairy bites don't infect them, their sweat repels them. Annabelle Lee is one of them. She works for the FCC collecting samples of fairy....crap basically. But like any heroine she's messed up and she has some issues. She's completely lovable and not hopeless. She cares a lot for the town she's made her home, she loves her friends and neighbors, she has a cop boyfriend who is amazing.

But then a young girl is murdered and the FBI shows up. Unfortunately for Annabelle it's her ex-boyfriend, her first real love and his partner. They're there to do a review on Annabelle's conduct and also try to help solve the murder. Annabelle's conduct is in question because she may have a drinking problem also she kinda hog tied a woman outside the iron fence when she was on the clock. The lady was crazy though and addicted to Breeze. Breeze is a drug that is highly addictive and it's also fairy... crap. So all of these things, plus a few others really cause some issues for Annabelle.

I really wasn't sure about this when I first started reading but honestly, this book pulls you in almost immediately. You get wrapped up in this story and just keep going. I didn't want to put it down. There is mystery that wasn't even answered in this book. Stacey left you with a lot of closure but there are things that are left open ended to continue in the series too. It definitely leaves you at that nice place where you're happy with the resolution but you want more. I am going to be picking up the next book in this series asap. You all should as well.

Even when Amber and I don't read the same books at the same time, we agree with each other.

  1. I knew you would love this book!! Its an awesome read. I love how Annabelle is a drunk and she is funny. Plus her name is so cute. lol There was a lot more that I liked but I will stick with that. Can't wait for you to read book 2 mofo.

  2. I really liked this book too. But I was a little disappointed in the ending to the second book.

    1. Me too Jennifer. But Amber R. hasn't read it yet. Maybe I should torture her with my knowing the info and her not like she is doing with my for Widow's Web. haha!
