My name is Gwen Frost, and I go to Mythos Academy; a school of myths, magic and warrior whiz kids, where even the lowliest geek knows how to chop off somebody's head with a sword and Logan Quinn, the hottest Spartan guy in school, also happens to be the deadliest. But lately, things have been weird, even for Mythos. First, mean girl Jasmine Ashton was murdered in the Library of Antiquities. Then, someone stole the Bowl of Tears, a magical artifact that can be used to bring about the second Chaos War. You know, death, destruction and lots of other bad, bad things. Freaky stuff like this goes on all the time at Mythos, but I'm determined to find out who killed Jasmine and why; especially since I should have been the one who died.
I can't remember the last YA series that I have read lately that I really liked. But I like this one so far. I was super impressed with Jennifer's Elemental Assassin series, so I was excited to check this out.
First of all, I feel so bad for Gwen. She has this crazy gift that if she touches anything or anyone she knows basically everything about it. Gwen has has a lot of changes in the past year. Her mom died in a tragic car accident that she blames herself for even though it wasn't her fault at all. She transferred to an elite private school. All the kids at the school are descendants of Greek gods and goddesses. They are all super wealthy and they all have powers too. Gwen feels out of place because she's not as flashy as the other kids, plus she's still grieving and she hasn't received the warmest welcome. She's not a descendant, she's a Gypsy. Which a lot of the other kids treat her like crap because of it, besides a lot of them just have an inflated sense of worth.
I think Gwen, as our leading lady shows a lot of character, bravery, courage, and heart. When Jasmine is murdered, she's the only one who really tries to find out what happened. And in the process of trying to figure out what happened she makes an unexpected friend. She also gets the attention of super hot, bad boy Logan.
All in all I think this was a really solid book. I'm definitely going to read the rest of the series. I can't wait to see what happens with Gwen and Logan because they left the book with Logan rejecting her. I think it's because he has secrets he wants to hide and he knows he can't if Gwen touches him. Okay, enough speculation. This is a good start to a series, if you haven't you should definitely pick it up.
