As a mercenary who cleans up after magic gone wrong, Kate Daniels has seen her share of occupational hazards. Normally, waves of paranormal energy ebb and flow across Atlanta like a tide. But once every seven years, a flare comes, a time when magic runs rampant. Now Kate’s going to have to deal with problems on a much bigger scale: a divine one.

When Kate sets out to retrieve a set of stolen maps for the Pack, Atlanta’s paramilitary clan of shapeshifters, she quickly realizes much more at stake. During a flare, Celtic god Morfran supersedes goddess Morrigan for witch coven worshippers of the Crow, and sea monsters from the Underworld enter via the Cauldron of Plenty. Kate starts looking for Pack maps and 13-year old Julia's witch mother, and ends up uniting shapeshifters and vampire zombie controllers to save the world.

Okay I think I am seriously starting to love this series. This is the 2nd book and once again I find myself totally drawn into this world. Its hard for me to put down. One of my most favorite things to watch unfold is the slow (and kinda torturous) build up of Kate and Curran relationship. I just know once these two get together its going to be dynamite!

This world is so one of a kind, its awesome. Vampires are undead by they are "piloted" by the people. Magic shuts down almost all technology and it goes in and out without any specific reason so you never know when it will be on or off. There are were's and witches and all sorts of things that go bump in the night. There are so many different things in this book that reading it will be the best way for you to find out.

This is a total Urban Fantasy at its best. I mean there really is no sexyness to it and yet I love it, so that should tell you how good the story really is. Yes there is that relationship build up but when I said slow and torturous I meant it.

Kate is another strong kick ass heroine and one I am beginning to think is going to earn that special spot in my favorites. She is just bad ass and takes no crap. She talks a good game and she totally has the talent to back it up. Curran is sexy and hot and a total alpha male. I can't wait to get him naked. Plus his last line in the book he said "PSYCH" I mean come on, that is awesome! I love to see that word still get some play time. Then there are the side characters, and they all bring something to the story. I especially love Derek.

Magic Burns leads on a new adventure into Kate's crazy world. And luckily for us the new adventure involves one sexy lion. We are introduced to new characters, meet back with some old ones and find out about some new creatures.  I can't wait to see what the next book as in store for me. I am really trying to be good and not read the 3rd book yet, but we will see how long I hold out.

    1. I actually downloaded the audio from my library. So when I was working out I listened to it and then when I wasn't I read it. I loved having both of them.
