When the magic is up, rogue mages cast their spells and monsters appear, while guns refuse to fire and cars fail to start. But then technology returns, and the magic recedes as unpredictably as it arose, leaving all kinds of paranormal problems in its wake.

Kate Daniels is a down-on-her-luck mercenary who makes her living cleaning up these magical problems. But when Kate's guardian is murdered, her quest for justice draws her into a power struggle between two strong factions within Atlanta's magic circles.

The Masters of the Dead, necromancers who can control vampires, and the Pack, a paramilitary clan of shapechangers, blame each other for a series of bizarre killings—and the death of Kate's guardian may be part of the same mystery. Pressured by both sides to find the killer, Kate realizes she's way out of her league—but she wouldn't have it any other way

I have heard of this series for a long time. I even checked this book out from the library a few years ago but never opened the book. The main reason for me never reading was I heard there just wasn't any romance in it. And we all know I love my smut. But Jennifer at The Book Nympho challenged me to read it and even sent me the book so I was cornered.lol I had no reason not to. And so I finally cracked open Magic Bites.

I guess I never considered how much I love Urban Fantasy even without the heavy romance. I was pleasantly surprised at how much I loved this world. Its far different then anything I imagined. There are vampires who are just gross and they are not like vampires I ever seen before. I mean it totally different (you have to read the book to see why) there are shapechangers and all sorts of them. My favorite is this sexy lion who calls himself Lord of the Beasts or Curran for short. Then the Magic. Its hard to explain at least for me. When magic is in full gear technology doesn't work, no phones or cars or anything. Its neat how it comes and goes and well you just have to read the book to see it. There is so much more in this world, you'll just have to see for yourself.

Kate was another kick ass heroine. I love her. She has magic in her blood and some super secret that makes her even more magical. She can totally kick some ass. She is gritty and sarcastic and I loved her. Curran was sexy and mysterious and even though there is no romance in this book a girl can dream!

Magic Bites was an awesome Urban Fantasy read. I loved this story so much more then I thought I would and I hear the books get better and better. I will definitely be getting into book 2 soon.

  1. Even though there aren't any huge romance 'smutty' scenes in the first book - the complete novel and series is great. I found it refreshing that the romance/bed stuff wasn't rushed - it takes it's time and I think that made for a better story in the long run - you can totally focus on the suspense, the monsters, the relationship without all the romance and the romance kinds of builds naturally throughout the series. I loved the series. The dialogue - the dialogue just gets better and better. Glad you finally read it - each book just gets beter and better - wait til you read Magic Bleeds. Oh My God. Great writing. :)

    1. The build up will totally make it that much better when they do finally do the deed. I just get impatient sometimes. I love the uniqueness of this book. I am trying to not rush through the books like I do when I start a series I love. But I think its going to be hard.

  2. Girl! Don't worry! You'll get your smut and trust me! It will be worth it, the author's taking the romance slow and having it develop, you'll appreiciate it more! These books drive you crazy with the funny and sexy moments and you're like just do it already! Hahaha!~ But you'll love them! :))

    1. The slow build up is fun and torturous. But I am sure it will all be worth it. Can I get a time frame of when it'll happen. lol
