Melanie Stryder refuses to fade away. Our world has been invaded by an unseen enemy. Humans become hosts for these invaders, their minds taken over while their bodies remain intact and continue their lives apparently unchanged. Most of humanity has succumbed.

When Melanie, one of the few remaining "wild" humans, is captured, she is certain it is her end. Wanderer, the invading "soul" who has been given Melanie's body, was warned about the challenges of living inside a human: the overwhelming emotions, the glut of senses, the too-vivid memories. But there was one difficulty Wanderer didn't expect: the former tenant of her body refusing to relinquish possession of her mind.

Wanderer probes Melanie's thoughts, hoping to discover the whereabouts of the remaining human resistance. Instead, Melanie fills Wanderer's mind with visions of the man Melanie loves - Jared, a human who still lives in hiding. Unable to separate herself from her body's desires, Wanderer begins to yearn for a man she has been tasked with exposing. When outside forces make Wanderer and Melanie unwilling allies, they set off on a dangerous and uncertain search for the man they both love.

I read this book a few years ago when I was getting off my Twilight kick. I remember enjoying but that is about it. Then the other day I seen a movie trailer for the movie and I was intrigued. So I decided I wanted to re-read it and see. I didn't want to do it too close to the movie release though because then I would be comparing the two very badly. So I just jumped on it. I wanted to see now that my reading tastes have changed so much since the beginning how this book would hold up and you know what? I freaking LOVED LOVED LOVED IT!!!

The Host kicked major awesome ass! Its over 600 pages and I read it all in one day. As soon as I put it down for a break I regretted it and tried to get back to it as soon as I could. I was determined to stay up all night if I had to, to read it. The story line was awesome, the characters were awesome and I loved it all.

If you see the name "Stephanie Meyer" and you think I am skipping it then you will miss out. Do not compare this to her Twilight series. Its nothing like it. The story had depth and so did the characters. This is seriously a book I can see myself re-reading again.

My biggest complaint is that it left off on a cliffhanger and so where the hell is book 2 at? Come on Stephanie, I don't know what you are doing but I want the second book already. I think people have waited long enough for it.

This is the second review in a row where I just have not talked about the book much. I don't know what is wrong with me.. But I promise this is an awesome book!! Here I will leave you the trailer so you can see a little of what its about.

  2. I was curious about this book after Twilight but the synopsis made it sound a bit weird to me. Glad to hear that it's worth reading. I'll try to read it before the movie comes out.

  4. I read this one after Twilight too. I remember I liked it but didn't like well enough to re-read it. Since I did read it after I finished up the Twilight series I could see a little bit of similarity with the guy characters and the whole love triangle thing.

    Carmel - think body snatchers.

I'm on the fence about seeing the movie but since my book/movie buddy wants to see it I'll go with her.

  7. After Twilight I vowed to stay away from her books. Though I love your review, I'd rather watch the movie.
