Follow Friday is hosted by Parajunkee's View and Alison Can Read

Here is this week's question:

Jumping Genres: Ever pick up a book from a genre you usually don't like and LOVE it?
Tell us about it and why you picked it up in the first place.

Amber R- I feel like I'm pretty diverse in what I read. I'll read anything that's good. However, I stick mostly with paranormal/urban fantasy/mystery/romance type books. I'm into some good smut. Recently I read a fantasy series, A Song of Ice and Fire by George R.R. Martin, which I absolutely loved. A friend suggested I watch the show Game of Thrones and once I realized it was based on a series, I just had to read it. My friend wrote a collection of short stories that was published that I really enjoyed as well. I'm not usually a fan of short stories, my theory is the bigger the book the better. But he was able to put meat into those short stories and really give the reader a great story line.

Amber I- I really don't go too much out of my preferred genre. I mainly read anything that has vampires/werewolves/fairies/witches/ghosts and well you get the picture. I do read short erotic novellas with just plain ol' humans. But I have gone a little out there and have read a few historic romances but they do have some fantasy to them (so it might not count) but if it does then there is that. I never thought I would like historical romances but I loved the few I have read.

So how about you guys?

  1. Oh I love a good Historical Romance. That was actually what I did my Top Ten this week about. Amber I. if you haven't tried Julia Quinn you should give her a try. Her Bridgerton series won't disappoint.
I am with you Amber R. I read a little of everything it seems, well except for Nonfiction. I figure my life is real enough that when I read I need a little something else. lol I have heard great things about the Game of Throne series and Hubby loves them.

  4. I so want to read the Game of Thrones, because I just found the series on TV and love it so naturally I have to read the books.

Now for Historical Romance I love it, its what I read when I was a teen so it will always be a fave.

  5. I read everything like Amber R. does. It's all about the story - I could care less what genre it's from. It's funny that you mentioned short stories. I always love the plots some short stories come with, but ugh, I hate how short they are, LOL. It's too face paced for me. I LOVE 400+ paged books. And Amber I, I LOVE historical romance so I'm glad you branched out a bit. It's a great genre.

  6. I'm all about paranormal! But I do like some fantasy books that have strong plots! Usually involving magic! Maria V. Snyder is an author who comes to mind that I adore!

I also enjoy almost everything, as long as it's good :) But I tend to return to the stuff I know I love too.

  10. I also love to read anything as long as it's well done, but I do seem to veer towards dystopian or paranormal or sci fi! :-) I do like to escape sometimes!
