For Chess Putnam, finding herself near-fatally poisoned by a con psychic and then stopping a murderous ghost is just another day on the job. As an agent of the Church of Real Truth, Chess must expose those looking to profit from the world’s unpleasant little poltergeist problem—humans filing false claims of hauntings—all while staving off any undead who really are looking for a kill. But Chess has been extra busy these days, coping with a new “celebrity” assignment while trying on her own time to help some desperate prostitutes.
Someone’s taking out the hookers of Downside in the most gruesome way, and Chess is sure the rumors that it’s the work of a ghost are way off base. But proving herself right means walking in the path of a maniac, not to mention standing between the two men in her life just as they—along with their ruthless employers—are moving closer to a catastrophic showdown. Someone is dealing in murder, sex, and the supernatural, and once again Chess finds herself right in the crossfire.
Chess is my new FAVORITE flawed heroine. Shes a drug addict, a liar, kinda whorish, breaks the guys heart who I love, a little selfish and I totally LOVE her! She has just grown on me. I can't explain why I love her so much even though she is all those things but I do. Just trust me on this.
Then there is Terrible, who in the first book is described as UGLY. Hes not suppose to be a looker, he beats and kills people, he works for a drug dealer, hes large and scary and I just can't wait to see him NAKED.lol He has just stolen my heart and I love every time he is in a scene. Again just trust me on this.
Downside Ghost series, is now one of my new favorite series. At the end of the 2 books I read I immediately went and bought the next book. I can not get enough. Its a dark and scary world. Chess is just in way over her head. She is sleeping with the enemy and if Bump finds out Terrible might have to kill her. She is also being black mailed by someone and there is the fact that there is a ghost killing hookers and is now following Chess around. Not to mention that if the Church finds out how Chess lives her personal life she could lose her job and possibly a lot more. Its another book where there is just so much going on and I can't even begin to scratch the surface of it.
Stacia Kane has just developed one of the most intriguing worlds I have ever read. I am officially hooked on this series. The hero and heroine are not your typical ones and the world they live in is like no other world I have ever read in a series. I am seriously in love!! I am jumping into book 3 tonight!!
I can't even with this book. I was about half way through when I bought the third in the series. This is clearly one of the best series I've read, ever. And easily the best I've read this year.
Chess is at it again. The Church has her investigating a rich television celebrities home. The Pyle's insist that their home is haunted and they have proof. Usually ghosts are debunked pretty quickly but this time even Chess isn't sure. Although that might be because of all the drugs she's taking. It seems like her addiction is getting out of hand. She's on them more and more. And taking more and more. It's easy though when the guy that you're banging is supplying you with your drugs. Not too mention, someone is killing hookers in Bump's and Slobag's territories and it looks like a ghost is involved with that as well. Of course, Chess is investigating by Bump's orders with Terrible at her side.
Chess is magnificent. All I want is for her to get it together. I'm rooting for her so hard. She is so gritty and real. Probably because of her addiction which is something that I've not seen in a "heroine" type figure in the books. But she is a good person and you can really get a sense of why she is the way she is. I'm just wondering if she's ever going to come out of it and get better or just sink further and further in. She's starting to see in this book that she can't stay in that happy medium.
Terrible is everything that I've never wanted and everything that I've always wanted. I can't even deal with him and himself. He's my new book boyfriend. I'm calling dibbs right now. So everyone better back off.
This book has brought out so much emotion in me. A book hasn't grabbed me in so long the way that this one has. I haven't been able to stop reading it since I started. I can't wait to read the next one. And I hope this series never ends. I'm praying to the book gods that Stacia Kane never stops writing this series.
