Once upon a time, fairies were the stuff of bedtime stories and sweet dreams. Then came the mutations, and the dreams became nightmares. Mosquito-size fairies now indulge their taste for human blood—and for most humans, a fairy bite means insanity or death. Luckily, Annabelle Lee isn’t most humans. The hard-drinking, smart-mouthed, bicycle-riding redhead is immune to fairy venom, and able to do the dirty work most humans can’t. Including helping law enforcement— and Cane Cooper, the bayou’s sexiest detective—collect evidence when a body is discovered outside the fairy-proof barricades of her Louisiana town.

But Annabelle isn’t equipped to deal with the murder of a sixyear- old girl or a former lover-turned-FBI snob taking an interest in the case. Suddenly her already bumpy relationship with Cane turns even rockier, and even the most trust-worthy friends become suspects. Annabelle’s life is imploding: between relationship drama, a heartbreaking murder investigation, Breeze-crazed drug runners, and a few too many rum and Cokes, Annabelle is a woman on the run—from her past, toward her future, and into the arms of a darkness waiting just for her.

 My Thoughts

What a refreshing awesome Urban fantasy read. I was shocked at how much I loved this book. I never heard of it before but my good friend Miss Vain recommended it and I am so happy she did. I couldn't put this book down, it has a unique twist to the fairy world and one sarcastic border line alcoholic heroine, that I just loved!

Finally a book where fairies are those tiny little things with wings, but these are not cute they are deadly and one bite can kill you or turn you insane. They have a taste for blood and only a few people are immune. The cities are bordered by iron they have iron shuttles and its very much like a zombie Apocalypse type of deal but its with deadly tiny killer fairies!

Annabelle is slightly destructive but seems to have a heart of gold. She is funny and sarcastic and I loved her. A lot of times in this book I just wanted to give her a big hug. There is so much going on in her life and so many people judging her. She was almost killed by a psycho drug user, then when Annabelle fights back she ties the women up and leaves her in the bayou. Which turns out is a big mistake, now she has her boss the FBI the ex love of her life and his new fiance and a few other people investigating her and just making her feel like crap. Not to mention at one point she is sure she is attacked by an invisible man, oh and there is a murderer on the lose.

There is way too much to tell you in the book so you should just go read it!lol

This was just a great read and as soon as I finished it I jumped into the next book!! I loved the world building, the characters and everything. It is a must read!!

  2. It is seriously awesome. I am not thinking I might have to bump it up to a 5 star. This is why rating books is so hard for me, I always change my mind. Its really an awesome read.

  3. Sounds pure adrenaline rush reading and I love that the heroine is tough because of all she has to overcome.

Thanks for sharing the review! New one for my wishlist for sure.

  8. I had never heard of this one before Miss Vain talked me into buying it. I know I need to read this one soon. I'm so glad you liked it so much and it does sound like a great story where there is always something going on.

  9. I loved this one when I read it as well! It was WAY darker and grittier than I expected. I cannot wait to read the 2nd book! Great review :)

  10. My Thoughts: Whoa. Lately, I have been wondering what it would be like to go back in time and relive my mistakes, to have the opportunity to redo everything. This book did just that for me. No silly, I did not go back in time and change my life but I got to experience Kate's biggest mistake with her.
