Review by Amber R.
It is a spine-electrifying supernatural tale where a huge Southern States mansion contains one of the most terrifying, violent and indeed psychopathic ghosts to haunt any town. It is also a murder mystery - why did Robina Willets apparently kill all five of her young children, and her husband, before stabbing herself to death? And, if you are in the camp of believing that 'justice .... just is not', then this will have you frothing at the mouth with righteous social fury. Add to that the vision of two exceptionally beautiful girls lying on a landing stage in the middle of a secluded lake, sleeping naked in the sun .... .... and then see if you can find any consecutive ten minutes in this book when you don't at least snicker at the heroine Leeann's sly, caustic, sometimes-knowing sometimes 'too stupid to live' commentary.
This book was funny, scary, sweet, and maddening at different times. It is about a small town beauty named Leeann who ends up in a world of trouble. Leeann is a simple girl from Oklahoma. She is considered the most beautiful girl in her home town. Well her and her best friend, Jessie. There is one particular family, The Willets, who are the richest people in town. There is also an old abandoned house in the town that is owned by the Willets where a horrible murder spree happened. Leeann's brother actually died at the house under horrible circumstances. Basically what happens is that Leeann ends up marrying the Willets son, George and all kinds of craziness happens from there.
I felt bad for Leeann a lot in this book. She was young and naive but she really wasn't looking for anything to bad to happen. She was trying to do the right thing and be a good person. I love her in this book. Although sometimes she isn't the brightest, she has the biggest heart and she's hilarious. I love all of her relationships with her family and friends. Her and Jessie together are just a force to be reckoned with. I love Jessie. I love all of these characters and the depth that the author brings to them.
This is the kind of book that leaves you wanting more of the characters, of the story, of everything. It definitely ends on a cliffhanger, so I am checking to see if this is going to be a series or if another book with the same characters coming out. It was really good. This book had me laughing, crying, and gasping in shock. I will be reading more of this author even if there aren't any more with the same characters.
