Half-Blood (Covenant #1)by Jennifer L. Armentrout
Paperback, 281 pagesPublished October 18th 2011 by Spencer Hill Press
Review by Amber I.
The Hematoi descend from the unions of gods and mortals, and the children of two Hematoi-pure-bloods-have godlike powers. Children of Hematoi and mortals-well, not so much. Half-bloods only have two options: become trained Sentinels who hunt and kill daimons or become servants in the homes of the pures. Seventeen-year-old Alexandria would rather risk her life fighting than waste it scrubbing toilets, but she may end up slumming it anyway. There are several rules that students at the Covenant must follow. Alex has problems with them all, but especially rule #1:Relationships between pures and halfs are forbidden. Unfortunately, she's crushing hard on the totally hot pure-blood Aiden. But falling for Aiden isn't her biggest problem--staying alive long enough to graduate the Covenant and become a Sentinel is. If she fails in her duty, she faces a future worse than death or slavery: being turned into a daimon, and being hunted by Aiden. And that would kind of suck.
Okay I figure I might as start off with the whole comparison to Vampire Academy and this book. I obviously live in a nice drama free book bubble, because I only heard about this being compared to the VA books about a week ago.lol. It was after I got this book and I only seen a quick comment on facebook about it. I asked someone I know who has read this book and VA and she assured me it was still an awesome read. So I went ahead and read it. Now there are a lot of similarities in the worlds. At the beginning it was pretty close. If I hadn't heard of the similarities, I think I would have still seen some but I wouldn't be quite so aware of them. A lot of people seemed to decide not to give this book a try because it is the same as VA, and I think you will miss out. If you go into this book looking for all the ways it is like VA then you are going to find them but if you go into to read a really good book you will enjoy it. Lets be honest there are lots of books where "supernatural like" kids go to school and train, there are lots of books where a girl falls with a guy that is forbidden, and a lot of books where the supernatural are similar to other books. So yes they are similar but if you are looking for a book to read and loved VA books, then you should give it a try!!
Now that we got that out of the way here we go.
I really loved this book. Alex and Aidan have that nice tension, you know they want each other but to act on it could mean Alex losing everything. Aidan was sweet and nice and I totally loved him. Alex was fun and her and Aidan just seemed to compliment each other. There is a nice greek myth to the story.
I really don't know what to say to make you give this a try. Its just one of those books that sticks in your head even after you finish it. I think the relationship between Alex and Aidan totally captivated me. And I just can't wait to see what happens next with them. I am still worried about Caleb, Alex's friend after what the oracle said, also I want to know more about Seth and how he is going to affect Alex's future and not to mention Deacon because he is kinda that bad boy who doesn't care about the rules and I find that intriguing. The characters in this book will totally draw you in, if you haven't noticed that.
I can not wait to read Pure and find out what is going to happen next. This book is definitely one to check out! It had a lot of everything I love, that sexual tension, the tough guy falling for the girl, action, mystery, awesome cast of characters, new twists with greek myth and it had Aidan!!lol I love him.
