Touch (Denazen #1)by Jus Accardo
Review by Amber R.
When a strange boy tumbles down a river embankment and lands at her feet, seventeen-year-old adrenaline junkie Deznee Cross snatches the opportunity to piss off her father by bringing the mysterious hottie with ice blue eyes home.
Except there’s something off with Kale. He wears her shoes in the shower, is overly fascinated with things like DVDs and vases, and acts like she’ll turn to dust if he touches her. It’s not until Dez’s father shows up, wielding a gun and knowing more about Kale than he should, that Dez realizes there’s more to this boy—and her father’s “law firm”—than she realized.
Kale has been a prisoner of Denazen Corporation—an organization devoted to collecting “special” kids known as Sixes and using them as weapons—his entire life. And, oh yeah, his touch? It kills. The two team up with a group of rogue Sixes hellbent on taking down Denazen before they’re caught and her father discovers the biggest secret of all. A secret Dez has spent her life keeping safe.
A secret Kale will kill to protect.
When I first started this book, I had no expectations. I hadn't read anything about it. Other than knowing that Jus Accardo is a great author. So I started reading this book and at first I just thought that Dez was going to be a rebellious teenager looking to stick it to her dad. However, that changed fast.
It turns out that nothing is what it seems. Her father really isn't a lawyer, her mother isn't really dead, and Dez is keeping a secret that people would really kill for. Her father is working for this company that uses people with special abilities as assassins. Kale is one of those people and he breaks free and when he is on the run, he meets Dez. Almost immediately, they are on the run. Dez's dad is looking for them.
There are so many things that happen throughout this book. I read it in just a couple hours. I didn't want to put it down. This was such a great read. This is definitely a book that you should read if you haven't. Also, Toxic, the second book in the series comes out this spring, so I will definitely be on the look out for that. This was a great first books and leaves you wanting more.
