Sixteen-year-old Maya is just an ordinary teen in an ordinary town. Sure, she doesn't know much about her background - the only thing she really has to cling to is an odd paw-print birthmark on her hip - but she never really put much thought into who her parents were or how she ended up with her adopted parents in this tiny medical-research community on Vancouver Island.

Until now.

Strange things have been happening in this claustrophobic town - from the mountain lions that have been approaching Maya to her best friend's hidden talent for "feeling" out people and situations, to the sexy new bad boy who makes Maya feel . . . . different. Combine that with a few unexplained deaths and a mystery involving Maya's biological parents and it's easy to suspect that this town might have more than its share of skeletons in its closet.

 My Thoughts

I was hooked from the prologue. I mean it, I just could not put this down and 2 pages in, I am asking myself why did I take so long to read this. It has been sitting on my shelf since the day it came out. Maybe I was nervous since its a spin off series to The Darkest Powers (which I loved) but I had no reason to be. Its Kelley Armstrong, I should have known this book would be amazing!!!

Maya is awesome! She is a whole package of mystery too. She is adopted, doesn't know who her real parents are, she has some weird gifts and are only getting stronger. She is also just fun. She is out-doorsy a girl a guy can hang out with, funny, sarcastic and just seriously someone you instantly like. She does learn a few secrets of her past and this does lead to a whole other set of questions.

Then there are the other kids in this small town of 200 people that I loved. The town itself is so isolated and has a drug research lab, where we all know something weird is going on and it makes you think everyone in town has some awesome secrets waiting to spill. I loved Daniel!!! He is the friend next door guy, always watching out for Maya and just down right amazing. And it seems to be just a friendship (even if that saddens me..lol) There is also the new comer and of coarse sexy bad boy Rafe, who Maya develops a thing for and where she learns some hidden truths about who she really is.

This book was just amazing. There is so much going on that I would have to write a crazy long review and you would all think I was nuts. There is still so much to uncover in the next books, and I am so excited to start them. If you haven't checked out Kelley Armstrong then you are nuts and need to get on this. Her YA and Adult series are seriously awesome!!

My review will never give this book the awesomesauce justice it deserves but trust me it is a must read!! Every page had me memorized and there is so much mystery and........like I said it was way to awesome to really sum it up in words!

  1. Rafe is such a bad boy hero. But I still like Darkest Powers better although, I'm still looking forward to The Calling. Maya is just a feisty girl, I want to know what happens to her.

    1. I read The Calling, but I am still all about Daniel. Usually I like the bad boy but not this time. I just love Daniel.lol. So naturally she probably will not pick him because I never get the guy I want, the girls always pick the opposite. I do love Darkest Power better too.

  2. I love the 'boy next door' kind of stories. And this seems to be even more.
Glad to see that you liked it! I've seen it around but now I might want to try it ;)

  3. I had not heard of this one so I don't mind your long review of all there is to like about the book. Sounds like a good read to me.

    Thanks for the share!

  4. I think I'm definitely in the minority in this one! I thought that, though it's very well written and entertaining, it introduced way too many plot lines, all of which were left unresolved. I really think that it's fine to write with a trilogy in mind, but each individual book in the series has got to be able to stand on its own, and The Gathering just did not accomplish that.
