Everneath (Everneath #1)

Hardcover, 384 pages
Expected publication: January 24th 2012 by Harper Collins
Review by Amber I

Last spring, Nikki Beckett vanished, sucked into an underworld known as the Everneath, where immortals Feed on the emotions of despairing humans. Now she's returned- to her old life, her family, her friends- before being banished back to the underworld... this time forever.

She has six months before the Everneath comes to claim her, six months for good-byes she can't find the words for, six months to find redemption, if it exists.

Nikki longs to spend these months reconnecting with her boyfriend, Jack, the one person she loves more than anything. But there's a problem: Cole, the smoldering immortal who first enticed her to the Everneath, has followed Nikk
i to the mortal world. And he'll do whatever it takes to bring her back- this time as his queen.

As Nikki's time grows short and her relationships begin slipping from her grasp, she's forced to make the hardest decision of her life: find a way to cheat fate and remain on the Surface with Jack or return to the Everneath and become Cole's.

My Thoughts

This book is a little hard for me to review. I have a sort of love/hate thing going with it. The story is definitely different and keeps you reading to find out what happens. But all the info is so broken up. You get glimpses of the past and what led up to the events to the current time but not enough to really feel connected with the characters. We are thrown into the story at like mid-point and are missing lots of information to help us understand what is going on and who we should like or not like.

I guess I just did not in the end connect with these characters. Maybe if we got to know them a little better then I would have loved this book. Like I said it really is different and I loved the story line enough that I had to keep reading. I actually read this book in 2 sittings because I had to know what was going on, what led to the events of the beginning of the book.

It does add some new twists to Greek Myth that were interesting. It was a pretty sad story with no real happy outcome to be had. Then there is the ending, which we could kind of see coming a mile away. I was really hoping it would not happen like this but of coarse it did. In the end Nikki got her hero.....

I think I would recommend this just to see if others feel the same way or if they got something else out of this book. If you've read it already let me know what you think.

  1. I have to say that I've been waiting for this book simply because i LOVE the cover. I also love Greek mythology but I've heard mixed reviews on it and that makes me sad lol Maybe i'll just download the cover picture and pin it on my cork board instead.

  2. That is why I read it, I loved the cover. Its a beautiful cover but in the end I just wasn't hooked on the story. But if you love this cover you should check out Demon Lover by Juliet Dark, its like this but more blue and the book is awesome.

  3. I don't think I'll like this one to be honest. I didn't like Goddess test and this sounds a lot like it. But I'm going to contradict myself and say, maybe in the long run I will when I forget what this book is about and buy it by accident. (This happens to me alot haha). Maybe the next book will be better? Thanks so much for the review! <3

    1. I have started liking books more and more with Greek Myth but this book really wasn't for me. And I honestly don't think I will be picking up the next one unless someone convinces me its awesome.

  4. ooh! The cover for Demon Love is beautiful!! Have you read it yet?

    1. I have read it and I really liked it. It is another one with mixed reviews and one I read just because of the cover. But I loved the book too.

  5. I haven't read this one, but although I've read some awesome reviews for it, I already got a feeling that I won't love it as much as them & your review just confirmed that, but I still might try it ;) I think I'll have the mixed feelings, too, because I'll probably be interested in the storyline, but annoyed with the too much romance & predictable ending, but as I already said, I still might get it & give it a shot, because the cover is just too gorgeous ;)

  6. This one is not exactly my style of reading though if I got it as a loan from someone I would probably give it a whirl, but I agree with the rest of you lovely cover.

    Thanks for the review!

  7. The cover is beautiful, it makes me want to read it even more.

  8. I haven't read the book. It can be quite annoying if the story is not in details. Is there book 2? Maybe things will get better. But I'm going to give it a try. Great review!
