She Smells the Dead (Spirit Guide, Book 1)She Smells the Dead (Spirit Guide #1)

Paperback, 163 pages
Published September 9th 2010 by Sacred Oaks Press
Reviewed by Amber I. and Amber R.

From Goodreads
It's the beginning of senior year and Yuki's psychic awareness of ghostly spirits is threatening to ruin her life. Her ability to sense spirits of the dead isn't glamorous like on TV. SHE SMELLS THE DEAD. Yuki is being visited in her dreams and suspects that her friend Calvin is involved in something strange. Will Yuki be able to save the spirits and herself?

Amber R's Thoughts
I have to admit I was pleasantly surprised by this book. I wasn't sure what to expect but this went above and beyond whatever I expected.

I love Yuki and Cal. They are such great characters. It's so cute that Cal has such a thing for Yuki and she doesn't see it at first. They seem like an odd pairing but they're actually perfect for each other. They have been friends for so long and they are super cute together.

The supporting characters in this book are really awesome too. Emma and Simon are too funny.

There are a lot of mysterious things going on in this book. There is paranormal stuff going on, mystery, murder, werewolves, spirit guides and all kinds of good stuff.

I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a good read. This is an excellent book.

Amber I's Thoughts

What a great book! As soon as I started it, I had to finish it.  It went beyond what I was expecting. And the cover is amazing!!

I loved the characters in this book. Cal and Yuki are fun and a loving couple. I love when best friends realize that they are in love and they start an amazing romance.

This book was also neat with how they dealt with all the paranormal stuff. Like the spirit users. I loved how she wrote in about how the wolves came to be. That was really good. Yuki's dreams where also really interesting and I loved how all the symbols in there really meant something.

The side characters too are also great. Emma and Simon,  I think these two would actually be great together if it wasn't for the age difference. They seem to know how to push each others buttons.

I can't wait to read the next book!!!!

AwesomeSauce Book of the Week

Vampire Relationship Guide Volume One: Meeting and Mating by
Evelyn Lafont

The Vampire Relationship Guide, Volume 1: Meeting and Mating

Why is this book getting special attention this week?

Well it's simple. It is GREAT! The writing is so clever and charming. Josie is super funny and sarcastic. I love her personality. Evelyn really brings the characters to the forefront and you can really connect with their personalities. I laughed so much while reading this book just because of Josie and her way of thinking. I like that Josie realizes that she doesn't need to be like her BFF and have a family and a "normal" life, that she could just be herself. She could live her life the way she wanted and be happy with that. There are some pretty unexpected twists and turns in this book. Plus two very hot vamps. Walker is my favorite but that's just because I'm into the whole bad boy persona. He is super sexy and reminds me of a mix of Bones from the Night Huntress series and Myrnin from the Morganville Vampire series. Either way, I think he's super hot! This book has a surprise ending that you'll never see coming, mystery, romance, and you'll laugh your butt off the whole time.

Everyone should check it out. You can buy it here at Amazon or Smashwords.

Kept (Blood Lust, novella 1 )Kept (Blood Lust #1)

Review by Amber I

From Goodreads

As a cat therian (shifter), Greta’s blood is already sought after to enhance spells and potions, but due to a quirk of her birth, her blood is potent enough to kill for. When her tribe plans to sacrifice her, Greta must ally herself with Dayne, the dangerous local sorcerer, and the only person strong enough to protect her.

My Thoughts

This was an awesome quick read. At first I was a little scared I wouldn't get into a story with a shifter who turned into a cat. But that was quickly out of my mind once the story got going. I really enjoyed the fact the main characters didn't go head over heels in love or anything like that. They liked each other and had some awesome sex and wanted to keep each other around but it wasn't an instant connection and no announcing their undying love for each other.

The book moves along really fast and you get totally sucked in. Even with this being a short story the characters where all well developed and you got all the same info you get from a full length book.

I loved it! Great book and I am going to be reading the next one very soon!!

 From Goodreads

Murder has brought Talon, Master of Guardians, as well as Zia, his witch and Master of Witches, to Chicago. The manner of death appears to be a suicide, but Talon is far from ready to close the case. To avenge the Guardian linked to his past, he agrees to take on the assignment, and find her killer.

As they dive deeper into the investigation, they find themselves entering a world where BDSM is the norm. A lifestyle that Zia is uncomfortable with and, rattled by this new development, she is more than ready to return to the Otherworld. But their investigation quickly takes an unexpected twist when they discover that they're not only hunting a killer but also someone who is controlling supernaturals in Chicago.

Their mission not only brings danger, but also forces Talon to deal with decades old guilt that corrodes his soul. Every event that unfolds only deepens his fight and pushes him to face an ultimate choice-what is more important-his duty to the Otherworld or the witch he holds closest to his heart?

 Amber I's Thoughts
Stacey has given us all another masterpiece. This is now one of my most favorite books.

We have always had Zia and Talon around and knew they were together, but in this book we get to see their true feelings. Their relationship is just so sweet. Their love is so real. I could read another 5 books with them. They are just perfect together.

I am just so in love with this book. Talon and Zia melted my heart. They were amazing and strong together. Really a perfect match I couldn't imagine anyone better together. (I am gushing a little aren't I?)

I thought it was so cute when Zia was in the bdsm club and kept blushing. I loved how Talon was so protective! And the first and hell the 2nd love scene was so hot you may need a fan to cool you down. :)

I couldn't put this book down! And I really think everyone should go out and read it!

Amber R's Thoughts:

I love the Magical Sword series so imagine my delight when Stacey Kennedy produced this book about two of my favorite characters from that series. Talon and Zia are under pressure in this book. They are out on assignment following up on a tragic murder of a previous guardian, who also happens to be Kyden's mother.

As always the sex scenes are smoking hot. Zia is definitely opened up to some new and exciting things that I don't think have ever crossed her mind. Talon is up and ready to bring Zia to new and exciting brinks in their sex life. Very, very hot.

However, my favorite theme throughout this entire book, is the relationship and development of these two awesomesauce characters. Who knew Talon was so deep and had all of these underlying emotions. Poor guy held so much guilt over things that he shouldn't have. No one can have that much control over so many different things in life. Talon is such a strong man and warrior. Luckily he works those feelings out in the end. Zia of course, is super sweet and a lot stronger than Talon gives her credit for. I understand that he's just being protective but he needs to let his woman shine!

There were several times throughout this book that I teared up. Talon's grief and guilt were so heartbreaking. Zia almost dies! It was awful and so sad. I think the best thing that came out of this book was Talon and Zia finally realizing that even though they are Masters that they should also take care of themselves. I love that they bonded in the end. Oh yeah, I loved the flashback to Zia and Talon becoming Masters.

This was a longer review for me but seriously this book is super awesome. I love it as you can tell from the review. Stacey delivers another amazing storyline. Keep em coming!

The Amber Feature- Featuring Dorian

Thursday, May 26, 2011

The Amber Feature will be a random post with both Amber's from AwesomeSauce
picking a random subject and going on a rant about it.

Today's The Amber Feature will be based on
Dorian from Richelle Mead's Dark Swan Series.

Iron Crowned (Dark Swan, Book 3)Storm Born (Dark Swan, Book 1)Thorn Queen (Dark Swan, Book 2)

**WARNING IF YOU HAVEN"T READ THESE THREE BOOKS
PLEASE DO NOT CONTINUE TO READ**
ADULT CONTENT

Amber I-- I love Dorian and Eugenie made me so mad!! I mean Kiyo was not a very generous lover and I was mad when she tried to say he was. I remember in the first 2 books he left her hanging so much! And Dorian was so over the top generous!!

Amber R-- Hahaha, not a "generous lover" that cracks me up. Kiyo was a jerk. I'm sorry but he was. He was always harping on Eugenie, "Don't do any magic..you're going to cause mayhem everywhere..blah blah blah" Like, couldn't he have a little trust in her?

Amber I-- Yeah he did try to hold her back or act scared when she used magic.uum hello he shifts into a fox and he made a baby with a Fairy Queen. And didn't her odd magic save his life so he could actually be there when his daughter was born. And he wouldn't hurt the man who raped Eugenie!! But you know who did our Man Dorian took a sword to the mofo!!hahaha

Amber R-- Heck yeah!!! Dorian slayed the rapist and saved the day. Not to mention he helped Eugenie see that not all fairies are bad and that there is nothing wrong with her being herself. He helped her see that she could accept herself for what she is. Besides the fact that Dorian is hella sexy. Man, some of those sex scenes between Dorian and Eugenie had me sweating bullets.

Amber I-- heckles yeah! Their first scene when he tied her up or even their last scene when she was well lets say on her knees.lol But thinking about that scene makes me sad. To know what could have happened if he would of stuck to his "spilling it inside her" routine then he might be a dad. He deserves that so much. I think Eugenie over thinks his motives. He may not always tell her exactly why he doing it but I do think he has her best intentions at heart.

Amber R-- I know! That was pretty hot when she was on her knees as you put it. But he could have been the dad instead of Kiyo. Now Kiyo is trying to kill her because of her evil fetuses and where did Eugenie run first chance? To Dorian! Who of course is going to help her and make sure that Kiyo doesn't do anything. But seriously, it's out of control all because Eugenie flipped out without even trying to listen or ask Dorian any questions at all.

Amber I-- She really never gave him a chance to tell her his side. And she never even broke it off with him before jumping into bed or "creek" with Kiyo. What a dirty skank!!lol. Dorian deserves more. I just love him!

Amber R-- I know! That's what I'm saying. She never even tried to ask him or listen to what Dorian had to say. And we both know that Dorian only ever has had the best intentions. So he wants her to have a little power? What's wrong with that?

Amber I-- Remember in the first book how excited he would get over the smallest stuff in the human world. Or how he stepped up to help her with her magic. He even pretended she was his girlfriend (when she was still screwing Kiyo) so she wouldn't be bothered. And he followed her into the war and risked all is people because of what was done to her.

Amber R-- Exactly! He risked a lot for her. She just always was paranoid that Dorian was about to do something crazy when he was just trying to help her out.

Amber I-- Want to do a pros and cons Dorian Vs Kiyo?

Amber R-- Of course. Dorian pros, Kiyo cons. Lol. We might be a little biased. Dorian: Looking out for Eugenie in the fairy world.

Amber I- Kiyo- Finishing before Eugenie can reach her peek.

Amber R- hahahaha. Dorian- Making sure Eugenie gets "hers".

Amber I- Kiyo- Not wanting her to do magic

Amber R- Dorian- Helping her improve and control her magic, so when she gets ticked off she doesn't kill everyone.

Amber I-- Kiyo- trying to kill Eugenie and their unborn children

Amber R-- Dorian- of course protecting Eugenie and her unborn children (even though she was a jerk to him).

Amber I- I think we summed it up Dorain= AwesomeSauce Kiyo= Dog turds!hahaha and Eugenie better straighten up!

Amber R- Kiyo is complete dog turds. Eugenie better get her stuff together in this last book and realize who the flip is AwesomeSauce and who isn't.

This Concludes the Amber Feature, featuring the Ambers at AwesomeSauce with their random rant about Dorian!! And I think we can all come away from this with the knowledge that
Dorian is way better the Kiyo!

Thanks to anyone who read this! Add your thoughts in the comments and we can keep the conversation going!!

The Geek JobThe Geek Job

ebook, 132 pages
Published April 7th 2011 by Eve Langlais
Review by Amber I

From Goodreads
Protect the geek, that’s the job she’s been hired for, but little did this shewolf expect to fall for a man of science.

As a werewolf who hires out as a bodyguard, Lexie is paid well to perform dangerous jobs that sometimes involve taking off her clothes. When she takes on the protection of a science geek for a vampire clan, she doesn’t expect her temporary girlfriend status to come with lots of pleasure. But a geeky human who pushes all her right buttons—and plays her body oh so right—isn’t reason enough for her to break the rules and fall in love.

Everything changes after an incident in the lab, but before she can decide if it’s safe to give him her heart, she has to help him survive.

My Thoughts

So we are all used to hot strong drool worthy men taking spot in our paranormal romances, well be prepared to swoon over one very geeky man!!

When you find out that our main man is suppose to be a nerdy scientific guy you may think to just skip this. I mean we all like our men to be that alpha male and someone we can all fall head over heals for. But please do not let this dissuade you from this book. Because you will miss one hot book!!

This book really blew my expectations. The characters had amazing chemistry and you find yourself totally in love with a very tall scientific geek with glasses.

He doesn't stay the tongue tied blushing fool for long though. And trust me you are going to want to see how this all plays out!!

Besides our geek turning all sexified you get a nice romance, some sexin where you might need an ice pack to cool down from and a lot of fun!!

Reader Behind the Author ***Lisa Darling

Today on the blog we have Lisa Darling with
"Reader Behind the Author"

Under the Dome: A Novel
What is the last book you purchased?
“Under the Dome”—Stephen King

What was the first book you remember reading and totally falling in love with?

When I was 10 my parents had a yard sale and invited the neighborhood and other friends to join in for the day and sell their junk.  My Aunt Val brought a big box of paperbacks to sell.  I was just starting to even like reading at that age so I poked through the box a lot and kept coming back to one particular book.  It was almost as though the book was calling to me, telling me that I just had to be its new owner.  She wanted a quarter for the paperback but at the end of the day she settled for a dime from me.  I grabbed my ‘new’ book, ran into the house, and instantly fell in love.  I still have that book, its safe in a glass case; first edition, paperback, “’Salem’s Lot”—Stephen King.

Where you always a reader?

No, reading frustrated me for a long time.  I’ve loved stories but not reading.  We used to read aloud in class and that was always good, I never minded when it was my turn to read aloud to the class but to just sit down and read something for pleasure that didn’t come until that yard sale. Up until then reading just wasn’t exciting, it was boring, something done only for school and quickly damnit! I wanted to get outside and play.

What book are you currently reading?

Full Dark, No Stars“Full Dark, No Stars”—Stephen King.  Are you sensing a theme here yet? LOL

Do you have any books on pre order? if so would you like to share what they are?

I never pre-order anything.

If you could meet an author alive or dead who would you pick?

Here goes that name again; Stephen King.  I’d give my eye-teeth just to sit down and have a cup of coffee with him for twenty minutes.  I’d also like to have a cup of coffee with Jacqueline Susann or Harold Robbins, or VC Andrews…any of those would be good. Hey! That’d make for one heck of a coffee club, huh? LOL

How many books do you think you read in a year?

However many Master King puts out, usually one or two and he’s always so considerate—nearly every year he puts one out right around my birthday!  My family always knows what to get me.

What are some of your favorite books in the genre you write?

Valley of the DollsAnything by Jacquline Susann, Harold Robbins, VC Andrews, Judith Rossner, and, here and there, Jackie Collins.  I adore “Valley of the Dolls”, “Once is Not Enough”, and “Delores” I could read them over and over again along with the “Flowers in the Attic” series.  Of course, “Looking for Mr. Goodbar” was my smack-you-in-the-face introduction to Erotica/Heated Stories with Hot Plots.

If you could save one person from dying in a book who would you pick?

Nearly anyone in “The Stand” but, most especially, ‘Nick Andros’.  I loved Nick, I cried my eyes out when he died, I was crushed.

Favorite book couple?

Dick & Jane

If your best friend asked you to recommend a book, what would you pick for them?

Different Seasons (Signet)It depends on who they are and what they like. If they’re looking to get into Stephen King but don’t like horror, I would recommend “Different Seasons” so they can read “The Body” (which became ‘Stand by me’) and “Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption” (yeah, also a movie).  Of course it has “The Breathing Method” which is super creepy! I’m still waiting for that to be a film.

If someone who was not a reader asked you to recommend a book to get the hooked what would you pick?

Probably the “Flowers in the Attic” series, it’s long, involved, very fast paced, and it keeps chugging right along.

Your bookshelf is on fire you can only save what you can carry what do you save?

The first edition paperback of “’Salem’s Lot”, my signed copy of “Four Past Midnight”, the letters I have from Stephen King, “The Stand”, “It”, “Nightmares & Dreamscapes”, “Skeleton Crew”, “Valley of the Dolls”, “The Godfather” and anything else I can cram in my arms.

Favorite Villain?

‘Randall Flagg’ a/k/a ‘The Man in Black’ a/k/a ‘The Walking Dude’.

More about Lisa and or her books

I write Dark Erotic (mostly Paranormal) Romance Novels.
Let me clarify; these are full-length (200,000+ words) novels intended for adults who are tired of cookie-cutter ‘romance’ pieces and want something with a bit more meat on its bones. People who believe that a hot story adds to the hot sex rather than detracting from it.
I’m also the owner and operator of Moon Mistress Publishing I don’t take on many new clients but I’m always open to the idea. My main talents lie in book and web production for authors.
I am the author of The Heart of War, Dark Romance novel with the main characters of Ares, Greek God of War and a plucky little Fey named Alena. This novel is available for sale in a wide variety of e-book formats as well as in paperback and hard cover. The sequel to this rather popular novel, Child of War, is currently going up in rough draft format on another blog. Look for it to be available, at least in limited sneak-peek quantities, at the end of 2011.
I am also the author of a romance/suspense/mystery novel entitled Dream Weaver which is available for e-book download and returns to paperback in April, 2011.

THE HEART OF WAR

The Heart of WarInside the Heart of every Warrior breathes the Soul of a Hero--even within The Heart of War.

Meet Ares God of War, the greatest Warrior the world has ever known. He's moody, grumpy, dominant, ravenously sexual, and above all, built like a Greek God.
Suspected of killing his Daughter in-Law, Psyche, and long in exile from Olympus, the solitude of Ares' island is interrupted when Magdalena MacLeod a brash and sometimes manipulative Fey washes up on Ares' island after believing she's been shipwrecked. It's not mere fate that has brought the unlikely couple together yet it may be what tears them apart.

Branded with a golden chastity belt bearing the mark of Cernunnos, Celtic God of the Forest and Death, Alena has been on the run from her husband the Great Horned God for 200 years.

When the Olympians discover her presence on Ares' island, they send Apollo to the island while Ares is away with orders to bring her to Olympus. Diplomatically winding her way out of immediately going to Olympus, when Ares returns and with nowhere to turn, Alena strikes a bargain with the God of War--her virginity for his protection. Ares sees a sweeter deal; her in his bed and himself back in his rightful place on Olympus even if it means turning Alena over to Zeus.
After Alena proves herself to Ares in battle and his bed, the God of War must choose between his Divinely Dysfunctional Family, his pride, and Alena. Get lost in this sweeping dark saga battling Ancient Gods while falling in love with Ares God of War and Alena MacLeod.  Ares and Alena share a love that will rock the world from the heights of Olympus to the Celtic moors, but will it be enough? Will love triumph, or will revenge and rage win the battle for the Heart of War?
DREAM WEAVER

Dream Weaver
Michael Garrett and Elizabeth Love are an unlikely couple when they team up to produce "The Shaw Street Strangler" a Hollywood movie based upon Elizabeth's best selling novel. Married but not to each other, forbidden romance blossoms under the hot California sun. All is not well as the Masked Panty Raider adopts the persona of Eddie from Elizabeth's novel. He follows her from her home in Connecticut to British Columbia and a cozy cabin where Michael and Lizzie are snowed in alone together for three days, finally to Hollywood and the set of "The Shaw Street Strangler". But who is the Masked Panty Raider? Just some whack-job from the Internet? Someone from Lizzie's past? Scott? Randy "The Adonis"? Or is it....perhaps....Michael? Sweeping romance combined with drama and suspense will keep you turning pages until you find out Whodunit.

THE LIMIKKIN
The Limikkin
On a rainy New England night, Brandy walks out on her husband and meets Gary on his way to Boston. Together they meet up with The Limikkin. A new--adult--twist on the werewolf tale.

This story is the result of a writing assignment wherein we had to write a story as though it were happening right now. We were not allowed to use any past tense. It was more difficult than I thought
