Teaser Tuesday--Iron Crowned

Monday, February 28, 2011
Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:

* Grab your current read
* Open to a random page
* Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
* BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
* Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers! And well someones name is cut out of it. You will see BLANK in its place.

My Teaser this week is from IRON CROWNED BY RICHELLE MEAD

"That's insane." I said. "BLANK wouldn't kill me."

"He loves me. This whole idea......it's ridiculous."

Iron Crowned (Dark Swan #3)

Mass Market Paperback, US, 375 pages
Published February 22nd 2011 by Zebra
Review by Amber I
 FROM GOODREADS

Shaman-for-hire Eugenie Markham is the best at banishing entities trespassing in the mortal realm. But as the Thorn Land’s queen, she’s fast running out of ways to end the brutal war devastating her kingdom. Her only hope: the Iron Crown, a legendary object even the most powerful gentry fear…

Who Eugenie can trust is the hardest part. Fairy king Dorian has his own agenda for aiding her search. And Kiyo, her shape-shifter ex-boyfriend, has every reason to betray her along the way. To control the Crown’s ever-consuming powers, Eugenie will have to confront an unimaginable temptation--one that will put her soul and the fate of two worlds in mortal peril.

My Thoughts

Another awesome book. I love this series.

The beginning was awesome. A lot of nice and hot moments with Dorian. I am a total Dorian fan. Seriously the beginning of the book we see a lot of Dorian action.lol.

Eugenie is getting pretty kick ass. She seems to be one of the strongest with magic out there. She isn't giving up on the war but she isn't happy about it. She doesn't want all this death. Then she still has human problems to worry about like work and paying bills. Her life seems way to exhausting for any one person to go through.

This series has a nice mix of magic, action and romance. Its a neat change from a lot of other series.

The world Richelle has made here is awesome. If you haven't tried this series yet please do. All Richelle Mead's books are amazing.

Mild Spoilerish Ranting. You've been WARNED

Okay I knew we had to have some kind of love triangle with Kiyo and Dorian. And you knew exactly when it was going to happen. And I hated it!! I mean the girl didn't even take a day break before jumping for one guy to another. And I know Dorian was wrong but he wasn't totally wrong. It just drove me crazy how fast she moved from one to another. I have another issue I want to discuss but that is way to spoilerish so I will not.

AwesomeSauce Interview-Black Fingernailed Review's

Today's Awesome Blogger being interviewed is Khadija from  Black Fingernailed Review!!

1. Why do you Blog?

I blog about books, movies, music and what I think about them. My blog is my opinions on a number of subjects but usually focused on books. I blog for myself, to share my opinions. I don't blog because so many other people do, or because I want free books. I am crazy and erratic and spur of the moment, I have a completly unpredicatable personality and therefore my blog is completly unpredicatable. If I have one rule in blogging it's to always be myself. I blog simply because I love to read and write and it's fun.

2.What do you look for in a review?

When I'm reading a review I don't want it to be stiff and critical. I like easy to read reviews, something that shows the bloggers personality without being too silly. I look for honesty in a review and respect both positive and negative feedback. The one thing that really turns me off of a review is when the review is more of a summery of the book than an actual opinion or when somone says 'this book rocked' or 'this book sucked' without giving any further explination.

3. If you had to promote your blog in a tweet (140 characters or less)what would you say?

How about: Kick a$$ reviews of books, movies, music and other goolish things from a gothly Black Fingernailed clad teen!

4. If you could live in one of your favorite "book worlds" what one you pick?

The Vampire Diaries!!!! It was one of the first YA series I ever read and one that I hold a special place in my heart for. I think it would be pretty awesome to actually meet the characters (especially Damon)!

5. If you were trapped on a desserted island what 5 books would you take with you?

The Vampire Diaries: The Fury by LJ Smith (because it's my favorite book in the series)
Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte (for the mystery...and the love story)
Dracula by Bram Stoker (because it's just awesome)
Shiver by Maggie Steifvater and Other Words for Love by Lorainne Zago Rosenthall (because they are both so beautifully written).

6. Your bookshelf is on fire and you can only save what you can carry what books would that be?

My bookshelf is on fire? 0.0 NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson
Before I Fall by Lauren Oliver
The Phantom of the Opera by Gaston Leroux
Other Words for Love by Lorainne Zago Rosenthal
Fall For Anything by Courtney Summers
The Vampire Diaries series by LJ Smith

7. If you could switch places with one character from a book who would it be and why?

Bella Swan from Twilight because then she wouldn't be so whinny and annoying and I could fix everything that's wrong with the story. Ok that was mean and uncalled for, I really didn't like Twilight. Really though? Probably Claire from The Morganville Vampires series. I absalutly love the series and Claire and it would be pretty awesome to live in the same house with Eve, Michale, and Shane...even if that house is in a town infested with Vampires.

8. If you had to choose a paranormal being to be what would you be? (like a vamp, were, fae, witch, demon etc anything like that)

A were-tiger (a white one) I just think it would be pretty cool to be able to turn into a tiger! I've always loved cats of all kinds and found something (although sinister) almost magestic about them. They seem so intellegent and protective. Being a fae is too complicated because they all have god-complexes (and that's so not me), I love the vamps but who really wants to be eternally damned and forced to suck people's blood to survive? (not me), witches have too many rules (i hate rules) and a demon is too bad and an angel is too good. So ya a white were-tiger ^-^

9. You're in a bookstore what section do you go to first?

Young Adult of course! Paranormal and Fantasy is always a must, I always hone in on contempary fiction, and as of late i've been giving si-fi fantasy some extra attention.

10. If you could meet an any author (alive or dead) who would you want to meet? and what would be the first question you would ask them?
Jane Austen: Why do all of your books have happy endings when you where so adament about writing stories of reality?

Thank you so so much for doing this!! Your answers were awesome and I had a lot of FUN!! Please go check out her blog @ Black Fingernailed Reviews

I haven't seen the video so I have no clue if you could hear me or not.

AwesomeSauce Interview-Brush Up On Your Reading

Friday, February 25, 2011

Today's Guest being interviewed is Nina @ Brush Up On Your Reading

Why do you Blog?

I have been wanting to blog for the longest time, but I always thought that I'm not that good at writing about my day or my innermost thoughts or whatever on a blog - I can't even manage to keep a diary much less a blog!  But then I had this short vacation from work in November and apart from housework, there was nothing to do at home.  I decided to read a book I had on my shelf (The Bermudez Triangle by Maureen Johnson) and I was really pleased when I finished it that I began to search the internet for more info about it and its author and that's when I saw all those book reviews about that book and I was surprised at how many book blogs there were out there and what a great idea to blog about books.  So I decided to start my own.  Actually, I've always been one to talk about books I've read, and even in a bookstore, I would try to sell a book I loved to a random stranger - and usually they do get that book :D

What do you look for in a review

I'm not really a professional book critic, I just do this for fun - but when I read a book review, I would like to see more of the reviewer's actual thoughts and not just a summary of the whole book and just a couple of sentences about the reviewer's opinion.

If you had to promote your blog in a tweet (140 characters or less)what would you say?
This blog is evil!  DON’T VISIT THIS BLOG! http://bit.ly/ggu23C -and I still have 76 characters left to mess with :D

If you could live in one of your favorite "book worlds" what one you pick

I would love to live in Anna Karenina's world - if only so I could wear those beautiful gowns.  I could also live with Paul and his friends in Boy Meets Boy.

Some book worlds are a bit scary what book world are you glad not to be in?
I would not like to be in any vampire/zombie/werewolf world.  Getting my blood sucked/my brain eaten/my body torn apart is so not cool.

Your bookshelf is on fire and you can only save what you can carry what books would that be?
I'd get a box and fit them all in it!  Okay, finding a box is not the best answer, I'd take Anna Karenina, Pride and Prejudice, Wuthering Heights, Speak, Prom, Wintergirls, Life on the Refrigerator Door, Boy Meets Boy, Will Grayson, Will Grayson, Still Alice... I could probably carry more - the benefits of having long arms!

If you could switch places with one character from a book who would it be and why?
I would switch places with Lia from Wintergirls by Laurie Halse Anderson just so I could stop the anorexia from further destroying her - what could help her more than a girl with a big appetite?  For a more fun switch, I'd switch with Nina Bermudez in The Bermudez Triangle because we have the same names and almost led the same lives so we both won't have that much trouble adjusting - and I have a little crush on Parker!

Do you have a favorite reading spot, if so where is it?
If it's a sunny morning, I'd read in a corner of our rooftop, but usually I'm slumped on my bed.

You're in a bookstore what section do you go to first?
The bookstore people and other frequent customers can tell you that I would always, always visit the new arrivals section first.

If you could meet an any author (alive or dead) who would you want to meet? and what would be the first question you would ask them?
I'd love to meet David Levithan and if I'm being cheeky, I'd ask, "Are you David?" But seriously?  I guess I'll get all tongue tied and awe struck and I'll just hand over my books so he could sign.

For dead authors, I would love to meet Jane Austen and ask her what she thinks of all those books that have been using her novels to create more outrageous stories.

Thanks so much Nina for your awesome answers and helping me out! I really appreciate it. And make sure you check out her blog @ Brush Up On Your Reading

Happy Friday everyone! The Follow My Book Blog Friday is hosted at Parajunkee's View.  If you're a new follower, please leave a link to your blog in the comments so that I can visit your blog.

This week's question from Follow My Book Blog Friday: Share your current fav television show! Tell us a bit about it...

Oh man I totally suck, I never watch new tv shows. If I do like a show its always reruns. Unless we are talking iCarly, Big Time Rush and Victorious on Nickelodeon, then I am so IN!! haha.

Some of the shows I will turn on if I am watching tv alone are.. Roseanne, How I met your Mother (I love it just never catch new episodes. Barney would be my bff if he was real) Wonder Years. I use to love watching Friends and 90210 daily but after seeing every episode like 10 time I got a little tired of it. That is all I can think of. See I suck.

This Side of the Grave (Night Huntress #5)by Jeaniene Frost

Mass Market Paperback, 384 pages
Published February 22nd 2011 by Avon
Review by Amber I

 From Goodreads

Danger waits on both sides of the grave.

Half-vampire Cat Crawfield and her vampire husband Bones have fought for their lives, as well as for their relationship. But just when they've triumphed over the latest battle, Cat's new and unexpected abilities threaten to upset a long-standing balance . . .
With the mysterious disappearance of vampires, rumors abound that a species war is brewing. A zealot is inciting tensions between the vampires and ghouls, and if these two powerful groups clash, innocent mortals could become collateral damage. Now Cat and Bones are forced to seek help from a dangerous "ally"—the ghoul queen of New Orleans herself. But the price of her assistance may prove more treacherous than even the threat of a supernatural war . . . to say nothing of the repercussions Cat never imagined.

My Thoughts

Holy AwesomeNess!! This Book was absoultley everything I have been waiting so patiently for. I LOVED IT! This has to be my favorite series of all times. Cat and Bones are just an amazing team. And you know what NO love triangles! There's no one for them except eachother.

This book is action packed from beginning to end. And holy wowser to CHAPTER 21!! We got a whole Chapter to some steamy love making! I just did a post of what makes me love a book and this book had everything I mentioned. Sarcastic sense of humor, great world, bad boy but nice..

If you haven't read this series, then you are nuts and you must! I can personally guarantee that if you like vampire books or just paranormal romance books you are going to LOVE this. And you will probably kick yourself for taking so long to read it. So go ahead and start with Halfway to the Grave, please!!

I just wish we had more IAN! He had a brief apperance that is it. I love him. But we did get a lot of Vlad and Mencheres. We did get a fun scene of Bones throwing Cat off a bridge and into a river.lol.

I am so sad to have to wait to read the next one!!

Meeting Book Lovers at Author Events

You know when you are going to go to an author signing and you are super excited, and you think hey it would be cool to meet other book bloggers or just people who love the book. So when someone says Hey I will be there you are excited to meet them to have someone to talk to about why you love this author and the books.

Well speaking from recent personal experience this sometimes is not always the best or wise thing..

So these are some things that happened to me with thinking about meeting a fellow book lover at a signing.

Invited me out to the city to explore with me her and her boyfriend and dad

Asked to split a Hotel room

Asked if I would give her money to get there.

These are my top 3! I have been getting messages daily now. And I am kinda sad that I didn't get to meet a nice sane person to book talk with. My husband is going with me luckily so I will not be alone.

Just thought I would share this with people. The world is CRAZY!

Waiting on Wednesday

"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Breaking Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

Wake Unto Me

From Goodreads

A haunted castle, a handsome young man dead for four hundred years, one heck of a scary portrait of a witch, and a treasure hunt -- not to mention a princess for a roommate! -- all await 15 year old American girl Caitlyn Monahan when she earns a scholarship to a French boarding school.

There are secrets behind the stone walls of Chateau de la Fortune, buried for centuries along with the mystery of who killed Raphael, the charming ghost who visits Caitlyn at night. But as Caitlyn unearths the history of the castle, nothing scares her as badly as the secret she learns about herself, and the reason she was chosen to come to the Fortune School.

And nothing breaks her heart as badly as falling in love with a dead guy.
