This Weeks AwesomeSauce Reader Being Interviewed is

Lets First Get to the Interview then we can know more about DaVinciKittie

Where do you get your books from, buy them (where from), library, or somewhere else?
Most of the books I read are for reviews, so I get them for free from the authors and publishers, but when I do buy one, I like Barnes&Noble.  I read mostly on my iPhone, so I like the ease and convenience of the Nook app and the B&N online store.  Their interface is also much cleaner than Amazon's and, being constantly surrounded by my own clutter, I'm oddly drawn to that.

What is the last book you read that you totally fell in love with?
The Iron Knight by Julie Kagawa.  I don't usually even like YA and this book is now one of my favorites ever!  I think what I like about it is that while it's young adult, it's not written for children - it's just tame with regards to sex and violence.  Such a beautiful, fantastical world, with amazing characters I want to move into my house with me.  Who doesn't want to listen to Ash and Puck banter all day?!

If you could meet an author alive or dead who would it be and what would you say?
Before NYCC my answer would have been "Jeaniene Frost" but since I got to meet her there, does that still count?  *wink*  She was incredibly gracious, even when I fangirl geeked out all over her.  I'm actually not sure what we talked about, only that I chattered on at her about random things and she was super sweet and friendly though out the whole somewhat-awkward encounter.  =)

If you could go on a girls night out with any 5 book characters who would you pick and why?
  • Cat (from the Night Huntress series by Jeaniene Frost) - she's sarcastic, fun, and can throw back G&Ts like nobody's business!
  • Olivia (Jag's mate from the Feral Warriors series by Pamela Palmer) - her dry, witty sense of humor would keep me on my toes
  • Mercy (from the Psy/Changeling series by Nalini Singh) - strong, sexy, and confident - my kind of gal pal!
  • Anita Blake (Anita Blake Vampire Hunter series by Laurell K Hamilton) - she's a hottie magnet and a darn good bodyguard
  • Cassie Palmer (from the Cassie Palmer series by Karen Chance) - cheeky, spirited, and always getting into hilarious trouble.  A night with Cassie would make for an interesting evening (and maybe Pritkin would show up with his arsenal of potions and flying swords!)

A book world you would love to live in?
If I could be an angel, I'd like to live in the Guild Hunter (by Nalini Singh) universe.  Mmmmm, sexy angels with huge, powerful wings!  And all that angel dust?  Heck yeah!

You have no books at all to read and you really want to read, what book are you going to grab from your stash and do a reread?
If I'm fiending for steamy, I pick up Joey hills mark of the vampire queen or vampire trinity. If I want familiarity, a sexy accent and some good ole stakings, I pull out one of the night huntress books (any if them will do).  I also like to drool over Anita Blakes harem of hot men, then dish the dish with friends about how she can talk her way right out of a sexy scene.

Is there a book you think is amazing, yet not a lot of other people do or its just not very popular. (if so tell us about it)
Maybe it's just who I've been talking to but the Feral Warrior series (starting with Desire Untamed) by Pamela Palmer doesn't seem to be as popular as I'd expect, considering how amazing it is.  Also, the Guild Hunter series (starting with Angel's Blood) by Nalini Singh seems to be gaining popularity but isn't quite there yet - it's one of my favorite series so I'm always looking for people to dish about it with.  A book from a new author that I thought was just fantastic is Mark of the Sylph by Rosalie Lario.  Extremely well-written in every aspect.  Fans of Jeaniene Frost will love Rosalie!

What is the first book you fell in love with?
First book ever?  Oh wow, that's a loooong time ago!  Oh oh, I remember now!  Freedom for a Cheetah by Arthur Catherall.  I read it in 4th grade and I checked it out so many times they finally just gave it to me.  *grin*

Your bookshelf is on fire and you can only take what you can carry, what are you grabbing?
Jeaniene Frost and Pamela Palmer signed books (they're new, so I'm still very attached!): Bite Before Christmas, This Side of the Grave, First Drop of Crimson, and Desire Untamed.

Your best friend asked you for a book recommendation, what book would you pick for them?
Do I have a word count limit for this question? *grin*  Any friend asking me about books is probably either asking about paranormal romance, fantasy, or scifi.  From those genres, I'd say the Night Huntress by Jeaniene Frost or the Feral Warriors series by Pamela Palmer (is there a theme here? yeah, I'm SUCH a fangirl!) for PNR, paranormal erotica would be Joey Hill's Vampire Queen series (keep a cold shower on hand), and urban fantasy would be the Cassie Palmer series (Team Dirty Sexy War Mage Pritkin!) by Karen Chance or the Fever series by Karen Marie Moning (seriously, BARRONS OMIGAWD /swoon).  For SciFi, Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card (do NOT read spoilers - you will hate yourself!) and any true Star Wars fan should read the New Jedi Order series (again, stay away from spoilers)- it will take everything you know about Star Wars and turn it on its head!
You guys still awake out there?  =D

A book that made you cry?
Half the books in the Black Dagger Brotherhood series by J.R. Ward (especially Rhage, JM, Z, and V's stories), The Iron Knight by Julie Kagawa (it's just so visually and emotionally moving!), and Faefever (Fever series #3 by Karen Marie Moning) absolutely SLAYED me!

What book are you anxiously waiting to read?
Blay and Qhuinn's story from the Black Dagger Brotherhood.  And they better get a book.  Seriously.  I know we keep getting snippets of them in other people's books, but they so deserve to headline one!   I also refuse to call them "Qhuay".  It just sounds eww!

What book are you currently reading?
Just finished Unleashed by Sarah Humphreys (4/5 Hearts!) and am about to start Avenger's Angel by Heather Killough-Walden.  I squeezed in The Moon, The Madness, & The Madness by Eliza March this weekend - saucy read!

If you could trade places for the day with any book character who would you pick?
Anita Blake or Merry Gentry on a non-"the world is about to end" day.  I don't need to explain why... right? *wink*

You have to fight in an epic battle to save the world, what 5 characters are you picking?
  • Mencheres from the Night Huntress series. An ex-pharaoh egyptian god with incredible magic and power? No brainer.
  • Barrons from the Fever series.  Unkillable, with a badass attitude?  Yes, please.
  • Lyssa from Vampire Queen series.  Shes scary.  *shudder*
  • Pritkin from the Cassie Palmer series. If you've read all the books, you know why.  If you havent, I can't tell you without spoiling it!
  • Raphael from guild hunter. Archangel who lives in the tallest tower in New York and rules over all of this continent. Nuff said.

What are you currently reading?
Since this question is similar to the one above, I assume you mean something other than a typical book?  I'm also reading the Anita Blake Circus of the Damned Pt 1 (The Charmer) graphic novel.  Part 2 is in the mail.  Loving it!

Favorite book cover?
ALL of the Feral Warriors series (by Pamela Palmer) book covers are yummy and Joey Hill's The Vampire Queen's Servant always gets my... erm... attention.  The Tears of Elios by Christa McHugh is just stunning.

If you could pair up 2 characters from different books who would you pair up?
Ian from the Night Huntress series (Bones' jaded sarcastic vampire sire) & Merry Gentry from the Meredith Gentry series by Laurell K Hamilton (fairy princess and man-magnet extraordinaire). She's stunning and unique enough to satisfy his need to "collect" originals, and sexually adventurous enough to challenge even Ian's cosmopolitan attitude.  I say stick 'em in a dark room and watch the sparks fly!  Of course, those might be sparks of "I'm going to sic Darkness and Frost on you if you don't step off" but hey, either way would be entertaining! *grin*

Where is your favorite reading spot?
*giggles* The bathtub!  I'd rather have a hot tub, but until I can make that happen, scorchingly hot baths it is!

Favorite Social Network? Facebook
Favorite Animal? Cats!
Favorite TV Show? Glee
Favorite Food? Pizza
Day or Night? Night!
Summer or Winter? Summer, fo sho!

 A Little Bit About DaVinciKittie:

I am SO a book junkie!  Especially paranormals and urban fantasies.  I've always been sort of a geek and instead of growing out it, it just morphed into vampire obsession.  =P  Mmm, fangs!  I vividly remember URGENTLY having to replace a book I thought I'd lost halfway through reading it... in seventh grade.  It was a Star Trek book, and I found my original a week later.  Two identical Star Trek books that I've already read... joy!  SciFi to Fantasy to Romance to Paranormal Romance... which is pretty much all I read now.

Random facts about me...

- I have a PNR/UF review and news blog, GraveTells if you want to take a look around, and January is our 1-year blog-o-versary!  Super exciting!
- I believe that the only good morning is a late one.
- I met my husband playing World of Warcraft 7years ago.  The family that games together stays together!
- I like to go to Renaissance Faires dressed in a cowboy hat, a corset, daggers, and knee-high boots, and drink bootleg honey mead.  Because that's pretty much the only place in Texas you can get away with that!
- I have a new hobby every 5-6 months (hellooo crafty!), but books are the only constant... besides cats and my hubby... in my life.  =)
- I've just been accepted as a contributor for Entangled Publishing's official blog.  Yaaay!  *confetti*

  1. Thanks again for the awesome interview. I need to read some books by Nalini Singh I keep seeing them around. Any suggestions?

    Also Loved the Iron Knight!

And no no no to Ian and Merry!! I haven't figured out who I want Ian with but I know its not Merry and her crazy magical vagina. For all I know she'll have sex with him and make him I have a huge crush on Ian, and I am not sure any girl will be okay with me.hahaha

  2. Great interview! Thanks for giving a shoutout to Unleashed :) I'm still smiling from your review. I had a total fan girl moment when I got to meet Christina Dodd and Lori Handeland--love them!

  3. Nice articles. I'm just blogwalking and very happy to stop here. And also give you some comment here.

Dont forget to give us some your comment into my blog too.

    Thanks for share,
    * Rio Prasetyo *

  4. I've never checked out the Grave Tells blog, but after this interview, I'm heading right over!

  5. So I'm about 4 days late responding to this... Argh, stupid camping and busy schedules and sickness! <3 to all of you guys for commenting and to Awesomesauce Book Club (which is still the most awesomesauce name) for having me!

*waves at Sara* I'm still catching up on email - will get back to you soon!! On the one hand, I'm glad that I got to meet Jeaniene Frost but on the other hand, I /facepalm every time I think about it. HAH! Ahhh, bittersweet. ;-)

Wordgirl, I hope you liked what you saw when you checked out GraveTells! Let me know if you have any questions!

Ok Amber I, let's talk about Merry and Ian. *grin* Ian is so... Ian... that I can't imagine many people with him either. JF has really set the bar high and complicated for finding his heroine, if he ever gets one (she's still unconfirmed on that). He definitely needs someone different though, something unique. And Merry is pretty unique. Plus, I'm curious if maybe Ian might secretly swing both ways and Merry has a lot of mancandy hanging around! I kinda like the "magical vagina" (I'm also an Anita Blake fan and hers is pretty magical too LOL) but I also like the smut. =D I don't think it's a matchup I'd want to see stick forever, but might be interesting for a few... *ahem* encounters. :p

  6. Oh, Nalini Singh books... (forgot to mention those)

She has two major series out, Guild Hunter (about angels, vampires and vamp hunters) and Psy/Changeling (about shapeshifters, the cerebrally talented Psy, and humans). Psy/Changeling is more of an investment because it has 10 books now (and is still not finished) but is totally worth it. The Dark River and Snowdancer packs will have you falling in love with them in no time.

The Guild Hunter series is only 4 or 5 books long (there are some novellas intersparsed, so I dont remember the exact count) and is more graphic and gruesome than Psy/Changeling. If you like the early Anita Blake style of crime solving with all the violence and gore, Guild Hunter has a similar feel, but is much more emotionally involved. Raphael is one of the most alpha of alphas ever written (right up there with Barrons). I actually think he should have won the Alpha showdown last year. Barrons may be able to resurrect, but Raphael is an archangel and UBER powerful.

Anyway, this is getting long. =P Nalini Singh writes really good characters, both with depth of emotion and personality complexity, and her stories almost always have me crying at some point because they feel so real. The passion is also super steamy - she knows how to get you going, that's for sure! Here are the starter books for the two series:
    Guild Hunter: Angel's Blood
    Psy Changeling: Slave to Sensation

  7. I will have to check both out. They both sound worth a read.

Ian will be so hard to get him with someone. Especially for me, since he is my favorite. Have you read The Bite Before Christmas yet?? Lots and lots of Ian time. I was in

  8. Gah, no not yet! I have my pretty, pearly, signed copy sitting right here and I keep staring at it. My reading schedule keeps telling me "nope, not yet!" *cry*

More Ian time... that makes me very happy. I <3 that dude! Some of my favorite moments in This Side of the Grave were with him. I thought it was going to be hard to find someone for Vlad too though, and Leila looks like a good fit so there's hope! =D

  9. I only read Jeanienes story, but it was so so so good! I loved it more then the last book. I would love to meet her. I think she may be going to the RT convention in Chicago, I hope so because then I will have my chance.

And I have not read Anita Blake yet. Its on my list though. I really like Merry Gentry I just have Ian I think I would even be jealous of him in a sex scene. That is just not normal, I know. I just love his sarcastic ass like attitude and they way he says puppet.hhahha... Oh man I need help.

  10. I was actually planning on going to the RT convention until I looked at the admission price. $500 just to attend? Holy smokes!! I'm going to Vegas now instead. =D

What I would LOVE to see is Ian's book written from first person... HIS POV instead of the heroine. Man oh man the things we could learn, being inside his head!

  11. Oh my goodness that would be an amazing book!! I would love it.

It is crazy expensive. I am really nervous about the money factor. But no matter what I will go to the signing. I think that is only $5. I can not believe they charge so much. Plus you have to pay for hotel.

  12. Oh and about Anita Blake (you may already know this but just in case)...

The series is almost split in half as far as the style and plot content. The first 8 books or so are dark urban fantasy with horror elements - some really gritty nasty stuff in there (and according to LKH is based on real crimes) and not too much sex. The rest of the series, specifically from Narcissus In Chains on, is a sex-fest. The focus switches from dark horror urban fantasy to vampire politics and how-to-manage-my-personal-harem-today interactions. There's still some horror elements and some good action, but sex takes a much more prominent role once she becomes "one of the monsters".

A lot of people like one part of the series and hate the other. I appreciate both, but I prefer the second half as horror isn't really my thing (although you need the background from those first books or you'll be lost). The Merry Gentry series sort of sums up all the best parts of Anita Blake, without all the blah blah blah talking.

Have I put anyone to sleep yet? I'm in fine form today, what with the Chatty Cathy routine and all. *grin*

  13. And you have to pay for all the events too (like the masquerade balls), plus food! Let us know how it was after you get back, and whether it was worth it! I'd consider going if it's really worth dropping that much on. =)

  14. That is one of the reasons I have not gotten to this series. I heard it lacked sex. And well I am a and horror isn't really my thing. So I am still not sure yet.

And if I pay $500 it better be worth I will be so so so mad if its not. It was between this and BEA and I really want to see all these authors. There are so many already signed up I would love to meet.
