Today on Reader Behind the Author we are super excited to have Patricia Eimer, author of Luck of the Devil. If you haven't yet, then you really need to go check that book out!
About PatriciaI'm a small town girl who was blessed with a large tree in the backyard that was a perfect spot for reading on summer days. Mixed with too much imagination it made me a bratty child but fated me to become a storyteller. After a stint of “thinking practically” in my twenties I earned degrees in Business and Economics and worked for a software firm in southwestern Germany but my passion has always been a good book. I currently lives in Pittsburgh with my two wonderful kids and a husband that learned the gourmet art of frozen pizzas to give me more time to write. When I'm not writing I can be found fencing and arguing with my dogs about plot points. Most days the Beagle wins but the Dalmatian is in close second. I'm in a distant third.
*And Now for the Interview*
A lot of times in books the girl has to choose between 2 guys, is there a book that you totally did not agree with her choice. Tell us who, and why.
This is going to totally sound off the wall but Twilight. I wasn’t keen to read that series but my little brother’s exfiancee bought it for me and I gave it a go but kept finding myself going “no you don’t want him. Go with the werewolf you twit!”
Where do you get your books from, buy them (where from), library, or somewhere else?
I will get books from just about anywhere if you give me a chance. Right now it’s mainly the library though. I read a lot so free books always appeal to me and I’m blessed to have a strong library nearby with a wonderful staff.
What is the last book you read that you totally fell in love with?
Lucky Girl by Cate Lords. It just came out and I bought it the very first day because Cate and I share a publisher and I knew to expect this book down the pipeline and was waiting for it. I ended up reading it all in one go and couldn’t put it down. It had everything I love in a contemporary including my own personal weakness – British men. I can’t help myself it’s the accent.
If you could meet an author alive or dead who would it be and what would you say?
Terry Pratchett and I’d just want to bask in his presence a bit and hope he’d give me the secrets to how he comes up with such funny ideas.
If you could go on a girls night out with any 5 book characters who would you pick and why?
Betsey the Vampire Queen – because I could ransack her shoe collection
Jane True – because she’s completely hilarious
Aisling Grey – Always helpful to have a Guardian around and who needs to call a cab when she’s got dragons on speed dial
Alice from the Looking Glass Wars – hello, it’s Alice kicking butt.
Fred the Mermaid – because there has to be someone snarkier than me in a group or things just go pear shaped.
A book world you would love to live in?
Katie MacAlister’s version of Paris from the Aisling Grey books.
You have no books at all to read and you really want to read, what book are you going to grab from your stash and do a reread?
Anything I can quickly find by MaryJanice Davidson, Katie MacAlister, or Pam Jenoff. Then I’m breaking into the history books. But then again, I can’t remember the last time I didn’t have a book or three to read.
What is the first book you fell in love with?
The Hobbit. I was 8 and I had the chicken pox.
Your bookshelf is on fire and you can only take what you can carry, what are you grabbing?
My kindle. The complete Sherlock Holmes, The Beatles Guide to London, and my Chicago Manual of Style. Even if my house is on fire my editor Libby is going to expect my edits in on time.
Your best friend asked you for a book recommendation, what book would you pick for them?
Nicole Peeler’s Tempest Rising Series.
Then my book, Luck of the Devil, of course.
A book that made you cry?
One Day by David Nicholls. You know the twist is coming that doesn’t change the fact it makes you cry.
What book are you anxiously waiting to read?
The next Light Dragons book by Katie MacAlister
What book are you currently reading?
Little Blog on the Prairie by Cathleen Davitt Bell and Paris Was Ours by Penelope Rowlands
How many books do you own?
375 on the kindle and seven full bookcases worth in the family room. Take out the textbooks (one full bookcase), assume 20 books per shelf, five shelves per case add in the twenty or so crammed into various places and let’s say about 1,000. Yes, my name is Patricia and I have a bit of a problem.
Favorite book cover?
Girl in the Steel Corset.
Where is your favorite reading spot?
I have a very comfy bed and a perfectly adjusted heated blanket
This and That
Favorite Social Network? Twitter
Favorite Animal? Elephants
Favorite TV Show? Big Bang Theory
Favorite Color? Red
Favorite Movie? Pirates of the Caribbean
Favorite Food? White Castle’s Cheese Burgers
Day or Night? Night
Summer or Winter? Summer
About Luck of the Devil and Where to Get a Copy
Being the youngest daughter of the Devil isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. Teenage rebellions and vows of chastity made just to upset dear old Dad are long in the past, and now all Faith wants is a nice, quiet life and a week-long vacation spent watching reruns. Unfortunately, thanks to the unexpected arrival of her demonically-downsized sister, a ditzy succubus roommate, and a surprise visit from dear old dad, those hopes seems to be going up in flames. Now it’s all Faith can do to keep the family reunion from Hell (literally) under wraps and the angelically-inclined hottie across the hall from realizing there’s something weird about his neighbor. And, thankfully, it’s working. Until an angelic stalker shows up in a bid to steal her powers and take over the world. Forget watching reruns, with the way things are going, Faith will need the luck of the Devil just to survive until work next Monday.
