Lover Unleashed (Black Dagger Brotherhood, #9)Lover Unleashed (Black Dagger Brotherhood #9)

Payne, twin sister of Vishous, is cut from the same dark, warrior cloth as her brother: A fighter by nature, and a maverick when it comes to the traditional role of Chosen females, there is no place for her on the Far Side… and no role for her on the front lines of the war, either. When she suffers a paralyzing injury, human surgeon Dr. Manuel Manello is called in to treat her as only he can- and he soon gets sucked into her dangerous, secret world. Although he never before believed in things that go bump in the night- like vampires- he finds himself more than willing to be seduced by the powerful female who marks both his body and his soul.
As the two find so much more than an erotic connection, the human and vampire worlds collide … just as a centuries old score catches up with Payne and puts both her love and her life in deadly jeopardy.

I really enjoyed this book, I wasn't in love but I liked it. I thought Manny and Payne where a great couple. I would have liked to see their relationship blossoming more, it didn't happen for most of the book and when it did, it was a little rushed. Also I wasn't thrilled with always being shuffled to so many different POV's. It made the story especially the beginning drag a little.

Honestly the book was more of V's and Jane's story then Manny's and Paynes. I was happy to see V get where he needed to be, but a lot of the time I was really upset with him. He just seemed so cruel and my heart was breaking for Jane most of the time. Like I said I am glad he got what he needed but the things he put Jane through seemed so unfair.

The book also didn't ooze sex. I think the hottest sex scene was with Xcor and Thore (I think that is his name) and the hooker. It was nothing to the story line but it was pretty hot. And obviously we are introduced to some new characters.

I am actually really excited to see Blay and Qhuinn get together. I always seen so many people on the B and Q kick but I was never a huge huge fan. Then there is Qhuinns dream, that I really want to know the meaning of.

Obviously if you are a BDB fan you are going to want to read this. Was it the best of the series? No, but still a good read!

  1. The V and Jane stuff crushed me reading it, massive sigh of relief when it worked out.

  4. I just finished reading Dark Lover the other day. I'm eager to check out the rest of this series. I guess they can't all be stellar but it's good to know that even the ones that aren't are worth a read.

  5. At first, I didn't think I was going to like this one. I hated V's book the most b/c I felt that there was no real closure for him like the other brothers got with their books. I am glad that J.R. Ward dedicated a lot of this book to V and it easily became one of my favorites of the series!

  6. I've only read the first book of BDB and listened to the next 2. So far so good. I'm worried that in the process to reading the next books I won't like them as much as the first one. :( Thanks for the review! At least now, I know what to expect.

  7. I agree with your review. I really liked the main characters but felt like we saw more depth with V and Jane. Happy that we see the latter work through some stuff. I am totally looking forward to B and Q's story...think they'll get their own book...Well as much of their own book as any characters get! This series is all about keeping the characters alive in future books!

  9. I have a couple from the beginning of the series and just have not been able to bring myself to move them up on the TRB. I keep getting sidetracked with so many wonderful books that are making my fingers itch and teeth ache to read LOL Thanks for sharing today. I enjoyed your review.
