Darkfever (Fever, #1)Darkfever (Fever #1)

 Review by Amber I.

MacKayla Lane’s life is good. She has great friends, a decent job, and a car that breaks down only every other week or so. In other words, she’s your perfectly ordinary twenty-first-century woman.

Or so she thinks…until something extraordinary happens.

When her sister is murdered, leaving a single clue to her death–a cryptic message on Mac’s cell phone–Mac journeys to Ireland in search of answers. The quest to find her sister’s killer draws her into a shadowy realm where nothing is as it seems, where good and evil wear the same treacherously seductive mask. She is soon faced with an even greater challenge: staying alive long enough to learn how to handle a power she had no idea she possessed–a gift that allows her to see beyond the world of man, into the dangerous realm of the Fae….

As Mac delves deeper into the mystery of her sister’s death, her every move is shadowed by the dark, mysterious Jericho, a man with no past and only mockery for a future. As she begins to close in on the truth, the ruthless Vlane–an alpha Fae who makes sex an addiction for human women–closes in on her. And as the boundary between worlds begins to crumble, Mac’s true mission becomes clear: find the elusive Sinsar Dubh before someone else claims the all-powerful Dark Book–because whoever gets to it first holds nothing less than complete control of the very fabric of both worlds in their hands.

Okay since everyone has read this book I am going to review this a bit different. It will pretty much just be a rambling. Maybe some lists too.lol.

I started this book like a year ago and gave it up. I didn't really like Mac. She was conceded, talked to much about her clothing and seemed like a spoiled brat. She accessorized way too much and told me everything down to her underwear matching her bracelet. I was like "uuum No thank you!" But people LOVED it and I was like maybe I was harsh so I wanted to try again.

So this second attempt, I still seen all those things I did before. I kept texting Amber R. saying I hate hearing all these shallow things come out of Macs mouth. But she told me to keep reading and not to focus on that and ruin the book for me. I have problems, I like my girls more rough and not so girly. And like a good girl I kept going.

Yes Mac bothered me a lot. But she had a lot of moments where I could totally relate to her and see her as a character I could grow to love. She just has to get out her I am so pretty faze and start kicking some ass. That is what I love.

The story itself is a good one. Her sister being murdered and Mac finding herself in another country trying to solve her murder the police can not. She learns things are way different then her little country world she has been living in. She fights believing in these things, but she doesn't give up. She doesn't know who to trust, she finds out that vampires and fairies are real. Not the tinker bell kind either, killer fairies who she thinks has something to do with her sisters death. Then comes Barrons. He is a nice mystery! What is he really? And when can these 2 get it on?lol Because, I know they will.

Overall I liked the book. Am I in love with it yet, NO! I hope to see in it what everyone else does. I am not giving up and going to continue the series though. I really want to love it like so many people I know do.

Some of my Favorite things

The Book Store when she refers to it looking even better then Beauty and the Beast! -I want to see that! I am jealous!

When she says something about when she gets mad she has imaginary conversations in her head. They are always smart and she always says the right thing.  -That is such a me move. I do this even when I am not mad. I have so many conversations, even reviews or posts in my head daily. It never comes out as cool as my head version does.

When she says she makes up swear words. -Anyone that knows me knows I do this all the time. I say I should make my own dictionary.lol.

I honestly think, I am going to kick myself later for not falling for this book! So lets see how this all goes.

  1. I have been holding off on reading this one myself. Seeing as you didn't hate the book, I think I might give it a go.

  2. I find it so funny that a lot of readers who don't take to it right away talk about how much they couldn't stand Mac's attitude or found her annoying, but then I'm thinking, "Did you guys read a different book?" b/c honestly I've never seen that.

And I find it funny all of our different takes on it. But Mac does grow into a very strong heroine by the end! =DDDDD

  3. It was almost the same thing for me for this first book, it was a nice book but not amazing at all. But after the second I was in love with the series. Maybe it will be the same for you. Great review

  4. I am the 5th book now, and I love them. I didn't fall in love with the books I think until book 4 or the end of book 3.

  5. Oh you'll end up falling in love with her. Once she goes through the "transformation" you'll appreciate her journey better. Plus she's a good compliment to Barrons. Darkfever is kind of slow but in book 2 you'll find out that you'll be pretty much raving about the series.

  6. I almost put this book down several times. I'm so glad I stuck with the series! (I'm glad you did too!)

  7. Ok, stick around because I LOVED the first 4 books. Mac gets so goth and anti-girly at some points you'll be dying for her to try pink on again.

That being said I'll admit...I didn't love the final book in the series...Excited to see what you think of it all!

  8. Oh...you have to keep going! This series was awesome. The first book was my least favorite but they get so good and Barron's =) sigh....This series was like Kim Harrison's Hollow series. It was hard to get started but after I did, I was so glad I stuck with it.

  9. I personally enjoyed book 1 more than book 2, but it is my understanding the series is picking up. Thanks for sharing today, there has been lots of buzz about the series recently and I am glad it was again brought to mind :)
