In the Shadows Book Tour

Welcome to this stop on In the Shadows Book Tour! I am super excited to have Julieanne with us today. She did a Guest Post with us that I am sure everyone will enjoy. But first Lets take a look at the book!!

In the Shadows

“In The Shadows”, the first of The Shadows trilogy, is an urban fantasy of vampires and the supernatural, and much, much more. In the shadows you will find lust and passion, battles for power and for blood, and death and fear around every corner. In the shadows you are carried away to an unknown future. Your destiny awaits, and you are no longer who you thought you were. You have a thirst, for blood perhaps, but a thirst for very much more than that.

Giselle was a normal girl with an attitude common to most girls of her age. Her family might not have been perfect (whose is?) but she loved them, and her future looked bright. She had an awesome best friend and a steady boyfriend, but how could she possibly have been so wrong about someone she loved? And how could she have been prepared for the darkness and for what she was to become?

Julieanne's Gust Post Below:

Writing “In The Shadows” was an experience I will never forget. I can honestly say that it was a thrill researching Slavic folklore and delving into the corrupt minds of the Nelapsi, researching old Russian names was fun and of course searching for an Island on the Southern Indian Ocean was amazing. I got to speak to some great geographers who gave me great scope on the types of Islands that would be “suitable” for the storyline and in the end, The Kerguelen Islands worked a treat for me.
I also found the whole writing experience quite different from any of my previous work and I found it all a little too therapeutic. I got to put a lot of my own darkness to rest and opened up this whole new side to me that shines through Giselle.
Giselle to me is this person who becomes lost, and finds that although life is hard, there is always a reason to live, no matter how hard or trying a situation can be. I suppose I used her as an outlet for my own struggles with identity and the trials and tribulations that life tends to throw at you. And boy, do I love her.

The whole book was completed in a twelve week period and at the end, I cried. Even though I knew there would be more, I hated walking away, but I think leaving the ending open the way I did, left me with no misconceptions of where I would next take Giselle and co. Although the whole series was planned out in depth, I knew that in most cases I would tweak things, shake the characters about and rip them apart when the reader least expected it. It’s how I like to be entertained, so in a sense, I write how I like to read.
Does that make sense to you?

Of course, music plays a major role in all my writing endeavours, and during the creation of In The Shadows, this became a ritual. The same songs played back to back, all day, every day, for twelve whole weeks. Wanna know some of my favourites? Yes, of course you do. Here is the track list that helped me create some pivotal scenes in the book:

1. Through Hell - We are the Fallen
2. The Way I Feel - 12 Stones
3. Dance With The Devil - Breaking Benjamin
4. Walking On Air - Kerli
5. The Hunger - Fireflight
6. Binge - Papa Roach
7. Fade Away - Seether
8. It’s Been Awhile - Staind
9. Unbreakable - Fireflight
10. Ten Black Roses - The Rasmus
11. It’s Not My Time - 3 Doors Down
12. Angels - Within Temptation
13. In The Darkness - Dead By Sunrise (played constantly during three intimate scenes)

So if by chance you read my book, and listen to these songs, why not try to match the song with certain scenes. You will be surprised.

About Julieanne Lynch

Fiery Librian Julieanne Lynch is an author of urban fantasy books for both adults and teens. Originally from Northern Ireland, Julieanne now lives in the Republic of Ireland, where she works on her Shadows Trilogy and other series full-time. Before becoming a writer, she considered a few different career paths, a rock star being one of them. She studied English Literature and Creative Writing at The Open University, and considered journalism as a career path. However, she decided writing was the way for her and believes all of her education and reading prepared her for it.

An avid reader, Julieanne has always had an encompassing fascination with folklore. When not writing, she enjoys crime series such as Criminal Minds, CSI, NCIS and Cold Case, and loves anything with Vampires, listening to metal, meeting new people, drinking lots of green tea, and sharing her dreams with her children. She is a self-professed goth wanna-be,and is happy when left to write into the early hours of the morning.
Julieanne’s YA series, The Shadows Trilogy, is published by Strict Publishing International and thus far contains In the Shadows. It follows the war between vampires and shadow creatures. Giselle Bergman, an 18-year old human girl, falls victim to a scheme by one of her closest childhood friends, and embarks on a journey that sees her become the center of a battle between good and evil.
