Awaken the Highland Warrior

Awaken the Highland Warrior
By Anita Clenney
Paperback 425 pages
Review by Amber R

From Goodreads:

A man from another time...

Faelan is from an ancient clan of Scottish Highland warriors, charged with shielding humanity from demonic forces. Betrayed and locked in a time vault, he has been sleeping for nearly two centuries when spunky historian Bree Kirkland inadvertently wakes him. She's more fearsome than the demon trying to kill him, and if he's not careful, she'll uncover the secrets his clan has bled and died to protect...

Could be the treasure she's been seeking all her life...

When Bree inherits an old treasure map, she discovers a warrior buried in her backyard. But the warrior isn't dead. Bree shocks Faelan with her modern dress and her boldness, and he infuriates Bree every time he tries to protect her.

With demons suddenly on the move, Bree discovers that Faelan's duty as protector is in his blood, and that her part in this fight was destined before she was born. But nothing is ever what it seems...

My Thoughts:

A highland warrior that is protecting the world from demons has been locked in a time vault for 150 years is released by a modern woman who is obsessed by antiques. Bree and Faelan's story is enough to make me wish that demons were hunting me down, just so that I could have a Faelan come rescue me.

I feel really bad for Faelan. He's thrust into the 21st century with no clue what's going on with anything in this world. Not only that but he's not sure if the only person who even knows he's alive is on his side. On the other hand Bree doesn't know if she can trust Faelan. Either way the magnetism between the two is out of control. Which leads to some very hot sex scenes for us.

Excellent read, lots of mystery, paranormal disturbances, romance, steamy sex.. I could go on and on but I won't. Just read it, trust me. This is an amazing book.

Your review reminds me of Karen Marie Moning's Spell of the Highlander. Have you read it? And if so, how would you compare it to Awaken the Highland Warrior? I ask because she's probably the only author of Paranormal Highlander Romances (That sounds like an official subgenre now--LOL!) that I know, and I like her books, but I'm hesitant to try other writers who are trying the same formula.

    Thanks!
