AwesomeSauce Blogger Interview-Jen (Red Hot Books)

Today's AwesomeSauce Blogger Being Interviewed is Jen from Red Hot Books Blog

What do you love most about blogging?
For me, blogging is an amazing compliment to reading.  Sitting down with a book is such an individual experience. But it's so much richer when you can talk about a book when you're done.  Writing a review after I finish a book forces me to really think about the story, to ask myself why I feel about it the way I do.  What's even better, though, is when a review generates a dialogue with another reader.  And they help you see sides of the book you wouldn't have noticed otherwise.

Shadowfever What is the best book you have read this year? (if you can't pick one then we can go with 3)
Shadowfever by Karen Marie Moning.  I was so worried that it wouldn't live up to my expectations, but it surpassed them.

Who is your favorite book couple?
That's hard. I would say Bella and Zsadist from the Black Dagger Brotherhood. Though Malkom and Carrow from Immortals After Dark are a close second.

If you had to choose a book world to live in what one would you pick?
Ooh. Immortals After Dark... but I demand a MacRieve of my very own.  That accent is verra, verra sexy.

If you had to describe your blog in a tweet (140 characters or less) what would you say?
Your one stop shop for all things Urban Fantasy, Romance, or just plain smut. With giveaways, snark and pictures of half-naked men.

Dark Needs at Night's Edge (Immortals After Dark, Book 4) What are 3 of your favorite book covers?
Dark Needs at Night's Edge, Kiss of a Demon King, and Lover Avenged

What was the first book you fell in love with?
As an adult, it would have to be Dead to the World by Charlaine Harris. I mean, it's hard not to love that shower-scene.

Kiss of the Highlander (The Highlander Series, Book 4)
If a person who didn't like to read asked you to pick a book to get them hooked on reading what book would you pick? (if you want to pick 3 different type of people and a book for each specific type thats fine)
I would suck at this.  I'm really particular about what I like to read.  I'd probably only have luck with someone who already has an interest in one of my genres of choice.  If they think they might like the supernatural, I'd go with the Sookie Stackhouse series. They're easy reading and the world is not so complicated as to be overwhelming. If they want some romance with their vamps, I'd say Immortals After Dark.  If Highlanders are more their cup of tea... Karen Marie Moning's The Kiss of the Highlander.  But if it were someone like my mom or my husband, I'd be SOL.

If you could trade places with anyone in a book who would you choose?
Nix the Ever-Knowing, Proto-Valkyrie, Soothsayer-Without-Equal

If you could meet an author alive or dead who would you meet and what would be your first question?
Hard, hard, hard. Sherrilyn Kenyon. Why did you make Darling gay in the League books, only to bait and switch fans into a woman for an HEA? (I'm still really torqued over that one.)

Dragon Bound (A Novel of the Elder Races) You just won an amazon  Gift Card for 1 book and it had to be used within the next 5 min. what book would you buy?
Dragon Bound by Thea Harrison. Everyone says it's awesome and apparently, I am the last PNR fan on the planet who has not read it.

What book are you most looking forward to this year?
I just read it. It was Magic Slays by Ilona Andrews.

Waking Up With the Duke (London's Greatest Lovers)
 What are you currently Reading?
I read a new book every day, so by the time this gets published the answer will be very old!  I just finished Waking Up With the Duke by Lorraine Heath.

If you could save 1 person from dying in a book who would you pick?
Kisten Phelps, in a New York second.  Years later, I'm still not over it. Damn you, Kim Harrison.

You are allowed to jump into a book and change an event what book would you pick and what event would you change?
See question 14.  Seriously, the man would be alive.

Have you been interviewed before, if yes how did this compare? If not what did you think of the questions?
Hmmm. I did a questionnaire for new bloggers once.  But it was much shorter.  This was fun!

Lots of books have vampires in them and a lot of them do different things to them. Like some turn you into a vampire with a bite others share blood, some can go into sunlight others can not. What do you think of a Vampire how would you describe them?
When I think of vampires, they are sexy, dark, and kind of tortured (but definitely not whiny.)  They are elegant, sophisticated and seductive. They can't go out in the sun; they must sleep at least part of the day, and they can turn others into one of their kind.

How did you come up with your blog name?
Smut-books.com was taken.  No, I'm just kidding.  It's actually really hard to pick a blog name that's not already taken.  But I wanted a name where you could pretty much spot the genre off the bat. No one's going to see "Red Hot Books" and think I review Christian or family titles.  (Not that there's anything wrong with Christian or family blogs... it's just not what I do.)

What supernatural power would you want? (like invisible, mind reading, telling the future, strength, or anything.)
The no aging-thing sound pretty awesome. But can we make eating whatever I want without gaining weight a superpower?  I think I'd really like that.

If you had to choose a paranormal being to be what would you be? (like a vamp, were, fae, witch, demon etc anything like that)
I'd have to say witch. They have power over such a wide variety of things with the fewest of the drawbacks.  Plus, I really hate the smell of dogs --I'd make a terrible werewolf.

Your bookshelf is on fire and you can only save what you can carry what books would that be?

I guess saying "my nook" defeats the purpose!  Um, the Fever series, Lover Awakened, Demon from the Dark, Pale Demon and Magic Bleeds. (I'm going to think of one I left out tomorrow and I'm going to be so pissed off.)

If you were trapped on a deserted island what 5 books would you take with you?
Probably the ones I saved in the fire.  That's more than five? No, I count the Fever series as one long book.)

You have 2 minutes to grab books off the shelf at a bookstore which section are you running to first?
Bookstores have such a hard-time categorizing the books I like. But I guess, Romance. Followed by Science Fiction/Fantasy (even though I don't really read science fiction or straight fantasy... that's where they hide the UF's.)

In Harry Potter there are 3 Hallows which one would you want and why?
The Deathly Ones? I don't know. I've never read Harrry Potter and I couldn't really get into the movies.

Top 3 Kick Ass Girls From a Book?
Kate Daniels, Cat Crawfield, and Gin Blanco

Love triangle that drove you crazy?
For awhile it was Anita, Jean Claude & Richard. Until she started having sex with everyone and it no longer mattered.

One couple you wanted together but did not end up together?
Freaking Kitty & Cormac in Carrie Vaughn's Kitty Norville books
Pale Demon (The Hollows, Book 9)
 Favorite Villain?
Either Lothaire (Kresley Cole's Immortals After Dark) or Trent (Kim Harrison's Hollows books) --though I'm not sure if either fits quite right in the category.

Thanks so much Jen for all your awesome answers! I am going to have to check out a few of these books you were talking about!!! I also loved your blog name answer. It was funny!

  5. Ah, someone should have warned you. I almost put down Darkfever several times. I hated Mac in that book. But I think that Moning did that on purpose, to better show her evolution over time. It gets better with every book, I promise.

  9. Thanks guys!

I do still read the AB books, by the way. Though, sometimes I'm not sure why, since they often bother me more than they entertain me.

Denise: I can't believe you were able to stop part-way through the series. There were such big cliffhangers at the end of each book. Shadowfever is outstanding... but if it's been awhile, you might want to do a re-read from the beginning of the sereies.
