Reader Behind the Author Presents
Her Debut Book Starcrossed will be hitting stores May 31st
Helen Hamilton has always tried to hide how different she is—no easy feat on an island as small as Nantucket, and only getting harder as she finds herself haunted by hallucinations and vivid nightmares.
It's not until she crosses paths with Lucas Delos at school that Helen's true heritage is finally revealed. Yet even as Lucas helps her awaken to her startling powers, they can never be together—not unless they can break free from the tragic destiny the Three Fates have in store.
Reader Behind The Author
If you could go out shopping with a character from any book who would you
I’d love to shop with any of the women from Edith Wharton’s Age of Innocence. Of course, I’d probably be hugely uncomfortable in all the corsets and crinoline, but wouldn’t it be so cool for a day?
If you could meet an author alive or dead who would you pick and why?
Mary Shelley. I just want to find out how the heck she came up with Frankenstein. And she had a scandalous private life, too. I bet she’d be a hoot to have a glass of wine with.
You have to fight in an epic battle to save the world what Literary Characters would you want on your side?
Frankenstein would be good-- as long as nobody lights a fire. I’d also like Aragorn from Lord of the Rings, Yoda from Star Wars, and Neo from The Matrix. Okay, I know half of these characters are from movies, but we’re talking about saving the world, right? You have to make an exception.
If you could save someone from dying in a book who would you pick?
I have to admit I was bummed when Dumbledore died, but if I had to pick just one character I’d want to save I’d probably say Lennie from Of Mice and Men. The end of that book had me in tears for days.
What is one of the first books you remember falling in love with?
The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein. I read it over and over when I was a little girl. Also, Anne of Green Gables by Lucy Maud Montgomery. That’s one of my all-time favorites.
Your best friend asked you to recommend them a book, what would you pick?
Which best friend? I’m not being a smarty-pants, but for different friends I would recommend different things. I think that books are so personal and recommending a book is such a touchy subject that you have to put a lot of thought into it. It really is about finding the perfect fit.
Favorite Book Couple?
Rincewind and The Luggage from Terry Pratchet’s Diskworld series. Okay, they aren’t technically “together” but they are paired up a lot. I also love Lyra and Will from Phillip Pullman’s His Dark Materials trilogy.
If you could have any supernatural like powers what one would you pick?
Teleportation would be really cool, but probably not very healthy. Instead of walking to the fridge to get a snack, I’d just zap myself there. I’d probably get huge.
Your bookshelf is on fire what books are you grabbing first?
The most expensive ones? No, seriously, I’d grab my mom’s beat up copy of The Iliad (it’s 50 years old) and Janson’s History of Art. Maybe my Jane Austin anthology as well—I couldn’t let Jane burn, now could I?
You need a girls night out, what literary characters are you sure to have a
FUN time with?
I’m just going to avoid any and all characters written by Henry Miller and Earnest Hemmingway-- I don’t think I have the debauch-chops to hang with those girls. Marianne from Sense and Sensibility probably knows how to tear it up with out getting into too much trouble.
