 Reader Behind the Author Presents
Josephine Angelini
(and giveaway)
Her Debut Book Starcrossed will be hitting stores May 31st

Helen Hamilton has always tried to hide how different she is—no easy feat on an island as small as Nantucket, and only getting harder as she finds herself haunted by hallucinations and vivid nightmares.
It's not until she crosses paths with Lucas Delos at school that Helen's true heritage is finally revealed. Yet even as Lucas helps her awaken to her startling powers, they can never be together—not unless they can break free from the tragic destiny the Three Fates have in store.

 Reader Behind The Author

If you could go out shopping with a character from any book who would you
pick?

The Age of InnocenceI’d love to shop with any of the women from Edith Wharton’s Age of Innocence.  Of course, I’d probably be hugely uncomfortable in all the corsets and crinoline, but wouldn’t it be so cool for a day?

If you could meet an author alive or dead who would you pick and why?

Mary Shelley.  I just want to find out how the heck she came up with Frankenstein.  And she had a scandalous private life, too.  I bet she’d be a hoot to have a glass of wine with.

You have to fight in an epic battle to save the world what Literary Characters would you want on your side?

The Lord of the Rings: 50th Anniversary, One Vol. EditionFrankenstein would be good-- as long as nobody lights a fire.  I’d also like Aragorn from Lord of the Rings, Yoda from Star Wars, and Neo from The Matrix.  Okay, I know half of these characters are from movies, but we’re talking about saving the world, right?  You have to make an exception.

If you could save someone from dying in a book who would you pick?

I have to admit I was bummed when Dumbledore died, but if I had to pick just one character I’d want to save I’d probably say Lennie from Of Mice and Men.  The end of that book had me in tears for days.

What is one of the first books you remember falling in love with?

The Giving Tree (Slipcased Mini Edition)The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein.  I read it over and over when I was a little girl.  Also, Anne of Green Gables by Lucy Maud Montgomery.  That’s one of my all-time favorites.

Your best friend asked you to recommend them a book, what would you pick?

Which best friend?  I’m not being a smarty-pants, but for different friends I would recommend different things.  I think that books are so personal and recommending a book is such a touchy subject that you have to put a lot of thought into it.  It really is about finding the perfect fit.

Favorite Book Couple?

His Dark Materials Omnibus (The Golden Compass; The Subtle Knife; The Amber Spyglass)Rincewind and The Luggage from Terry Pratchet’s Diskworld series.  Okay, they aren’t technically “together” but they are paired up a lot.  I also love Lyra and Will from Phillip Pullman’s His Dark Materials trilogy.

If you could have any supernatural like powers what one would you pick?

Teleportation would be really cool, but probably not very healthy.  Instead of walking to the fridge to get a snack, I’d just zap myself there.  I’d probably get huge.

Your bookshelf is on fire what books are you grabbing first?

The most expensive ones?  No, seriously, I’d grab my mom’s beat up copy of The Iliad (it’s 50 years old) and Janson’s History of Art.  Maybe my Jane Austin anthology as well—I couldn’t let Jane burn, now could I?

You need a girls night out, what literary characters are you sure to have a

FUN time with?

I’m just going to avoid any and all characters written by Henry Miller and Earnest Hemmingway-- I don’t think I have the debauch-chops to hang with those girls.  Marianne from Sense and Sensibility probably knows how to tear it up with out getting into too much trouble.

  1. Love this new feature :-) !

As to the question ... Your bookshelf is on fire what books are you grabbing first?
After a brief panic I'd pray for arms as long as a monkey's so I could save a lot, but ultimately I'd save The Gates of Ivory by Doris Egan. My fav book and hardly available/replaceable anymore.

  2. great interview! its always nice to learn a bit more about the authors :)

Question; If you could have any supernatural like powers what one would you pick?

I would love to have the power to turn invisible. I know its not much of a "supernatural" power, but that's what I would choose.... ohhhh! the things I would do, and see.... :)haha!

  3. Loved the questions and answers! I'm going to answer the question about what literary characters you'd like a girls night out with. I've thought it through and I'm going with a selection, Lizzie Bennet because she'd find the fun in everything and be up for a laugh, Jaime Vegas, Paige Winterbourne and Elena Micheals from Kelley Armstrongs series because Jaime could get the drinks in, Paige would make sure we all got home alright but still had fun and Elena would sort out any guys that got a little too handsy with us! I'd also take along Tabitha, Amanda, Sunshine and Grace from the Dark-Hunter series by Sherrilyn Kenyon because I think you couldn't help but have a really good night out with them along! I know that's a lot of characters but it's a girls night on the town! You need a good group with you to put the fear of God in all men that see you coming! Lol!

  4. Thanks so much for this giveaway! :)

Loved the superpower question! Great answer she had, haha.
My answer: Mind control. I swear you can do anything with it. Convince people you're invisible and make scientists build you an awesome teleportation or flying machine!

  5. What is one of the first books you remember falling in love with?
There's just something special about a story that you read when you're little. I absolutely loved (and still do) the Max Remy series by Debora Abela. It was awesome because it was about an ordinary, really clumsy, kinda unpopular girl who becomes a spy. Plus I loved that it was Australian.
Thanks for the giveaway. It looks amazing.

  6. The questions were so much fan and she gave such nice answers!

My pick is: If you could meet an author alive or dead who would you pick and why?

I'd like to have a chat with Terry Pratchett because, seriously, that guy wrote such ironic books and I wouldn't it be great to have a conversation with him? I might be in awe for the whole thing, but can you blame me?

Also, I'd love to talk to Sarah Reese Brennan. I talked to her via email couple of times and she is GREAT!!!

  7. You need a girls night out, what literary characters are you sure to have a
    FUN time with?

I'd have to say Izzy from The Mortal Instruments, Rose from Vampire Academy and Anya from Gene Showalter's The Darkest Kiss. I think they'd all be a blast to hang out with and yet have enough common sense not to do something too crazy or dangerous.

I'm going to be completely honest here and say that I have actually read this, thought Netgalley and I loved it! It was incredible and the ending makes me want the sequel now. It's definatly something I wanna have on my shelves.

  18. Love your questions!

If I could save one person from dying in a book, who would it be?

Can it be an animal? Because I would want to save Bambi's mom - still not over that one.

If it has to be a person, then I would save Sirius Black from Harry Potter. Speaking of Harry Potter and saving animals, can I save Hedwig too? Love that owl. Oh my, my list is getting long. I should stop now! :)

I hope whoever wins loves it as much as I did!

  27. Awesome interview and giveaway! My favorite Q&A was "If you could save someone from dying in a book who would you pick?" My answer would have to be an HP one. I'd save Fred Weasley, it completely broke my heart to see the twins separated like that.
