Magic is dangerous--but love is more dangerous still.

When sixteen-year-old Tessa Gray crosses the ocean to find her brother, her destination is England, the time is the reign of Queen Victoria, and something terrifying is waiting for her in London's Downworld, where vampires, warlocks and other supernatural folk stalk the gaslit streets. Only the Shadowhunters, warriors dedicated to ridding the world of demons, keep order amidst the chaos.

Kidnapped by the mysterious Dark Sisters, members of a secret organization called The Pandemonium Club, Tessa soon learns that she herself is a Downworlder with a rare ability: the power to transform, at will, into another person. What's more, the Magister, the shadowy figure who runs the Club, will stop at nothing to claim Tessa's power for his own.

Friendless and hunted, Tessa takes refuge with the Shadowhunters of the London Institute, who swear to find her brother if she will use her power to help them. She soon finds herself fascinated by--and torn between--two best friends: James, whose fragile beauty hides a deadly secret, and blue-eyed Will, whose caustic wit and volatile moods keep everyone in his life at arm's length...everyone, that is, but Tessa. As their search draws them deep into the heart of an arcane plot that threatens to destroy the Shadowhunters, Tessa realizes that she may need to choose between saving her brother and helping her new friends save the world...and that love may be the most dangerous magic of all.

My Thoughts!

5 out of 5 stars.

Holy Awesomeness!! I loved this book!!! It was extremely good. There was so many twists and turns you never knew what exactly was going to happen. Poor Tessa is kidnapped then rescued but her troubles are far from over. She is willing to do anything to find her brother and rescue him. And when given the chance she goes in and risks it all to save him. And so now we are thinking we have her brother we caught the bad guy, but oooh no not quite yet. This is just the beginning!!

I know I suck at reviews but trust me this is an awesome book. I guess there is a small love triangle. Not too much though. And even though Will is such a jerk at times, I still believe he is a really good person and the one for Tessa. All the characters are so well defined and you can easily see them. Its like getting caught in this whole new world. I loved it.

I just can not wait to finish the rest of the Mortal Instrument books. Because Cassandra Clare seems to be off to an awesome start with me, sure to be one of my favorite YA writers. Its just awesome to get these new refreshing stories that have a mind of their own and not repeat what other YA novels tend to do a lot. This is going on my must own list!

  1. I agree with you completely! COA is such an awesome book! I can't wait to start TMI series! Cassandras writing is great! :D Thank for the review!

  2. I read the first one in TMI. It was really good. Just have to read the others.

  3. This was my feeling about this novel. It was favorite read of 2010! I know it is a pre-quet and I now love her as an author but I don't dare read the "city of " series because I am too worried it will give something away about this novel.

  4. beautiful cover interesting story..hopefully I could get a copy >.< thanks for sharing your thoughts
